We are now seeking an experienced Associate Director (Ecology) to lead our Ecology team in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity to help drive our ecological consultancy practice in the Midlands, working on projects that are shaping the region's future.
Our Waterman Ecology team is a CIEEM Registered Ecology Practice exemplifying our depth and breadth of experience and technical excellence.
The Role:
As Associate Director (Ecology), you will take responsibility for leading ecological consultancy services on large-scale projects, particularly in the residential and infrastructure sectors. You will manage ecological assessments, provide strategic advice, and work with clients to ensure their developments meet the highest environmental standards. Additionally, you will be integral to the growth of the Birmingham team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead ecological assessments and surveys, ensuring compliance with UK ecological legislation and regulations.
2. Develop strategies for achieving Biodiversity Net Gain and managing ecological risks in projects.
3. Oversee the preparation of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and related technical reports.
4. Manage the team’s workflow, mentor junior staff, and encourage professional growth.
5. Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing expert advice and guidance.
6. Contribute to business development and marketing activities.
7. Stay up-to-date with ecological policies and legislation that impact development projects.
What We’re Looking For:
1. A degree in Ecology or a related discipline.
2. Experience, with Full Membership of CIEEM and/or Chartered Ecologist status.
3. Proven track record in leading and managing ecological surveys and assessments.
4. Strong knowledge of UK planning policies and ecological legislation.
5. Experience in both residential and infrastructure sectors.
6. Leadership and team management skills, with a focus on mentoring and development.
