Role Overview
As an HLTA, you will play an essential role in supporting students with a range of complex needs, including Autism, ADHD, and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Your responsibilities will include delivering lessons, leading interventions, and working closely with teachers to ensure each student receives the tailored support they require to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Engaging Lessons: Lead lessons and structured interventions, stepping in for the class teacher when required.
* Individualized Support: Provide one-to-one and small group assistance, adapting teaching methods to suit the diverse needs of learners.
* Differentiated Activities: Prepare and deliver activities that are accessible and engaging for students with varying learning styles and abilities.
* Monitor Progress: Track student development, maintain detailed records, and share feedback with teachers, parents, and the SENCO.
* Behavior Management: Implement strategies to create a focused and positive classroom environment.
* Collaboration: Work closely with the SENCO, teachers, and external professionals to support individualized learning plans.
* Safeguarding: Adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies, ensuring the well-being and safety of all students.
* Foster Independence: Encourage confidence and autonomy among students to support their academic and personal growth.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in an SEN setting or similar role, supporting students with complex needs.
* HLTA qualification or equivalent, with a strong understanding of strategies for SEN learners.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor when working with students who may have challenging behaviors or additional needs.
* Strong organizational skills to manage responsibilities and respond dynamically to student needs.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
* Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or PMLD.
* Knowledge of behavior management strategies and techniques for adapting teaching to diverse needs.
* Relevant SEN-specific certifications or First Aid qualifications.
