DUTIES OF THE POST:
The post holder is based in Daisy Hill Hospital, but occasionally may be asked to assist the consultant in an outreach clinic.
It is expected that the post holder will become fully involved in all aspects of the work in the Paediatric Department.
1. Support the 1st term Doctors in assessment and management of acute paediatric admissions.
2. Participate in consultant led ward rounds and occasionally undertake ward rounds.
3. Attend at clinics to maintain a high standard of care and ensure continuity of service.
4. Undertake administrative duties as required for the efficient running of the service.
5. Participate in audit and in any appropriate programme of research which is being conducted in the department.
6. Develop or maintain a special interest, with the support of the Consultant staff.
7. Contribute to the programme of post-graduate activities.
8. Assist and take part in post-graduate/undergraduate teaching of medical and nursing staff within the department.
9. Provide cover to enable 1st term Doctors to attend teaching in protected time.
10. Participate with the ongoing management of patients in the ambulatory care unit and in the assessment of Paediatric patients attending the Emergency Medicine department.
11. Supervise the neonatal unit and provide training and supervision for 1st term Doctors in the examination of new-born infants in the post natal wards of the hospital under the direct supervision of the consultants.
12. Implement safeguarding procedures and participate in relevant training to meet statutory requirements.
13. The post holder shall also be expected to undertake continuing medical education and specialist training related to the practice of Paediatrics. He/she will be expected to update paediatric resuscitation skills as required by the regulations of the Resuscitation Council (or equivalent) or more often if that deemed necessary by the Consultants in the department.
14. Use Trust wide and departmental computer technology in line with the Trust’s Information Management and Technology Strategy.
15. Perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
16. Meet professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice).
