Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Perinatal Pelvic Health team as a Specialist Midwife, supporting the development and implementation of the Greater Manchester PPHS implementation programme in line with the National PPHS service specification and implementation guidance. You will be part of an innovative team of Midwives supporting the clinical provision of Perinatal Pelvic Health service across the MCS.
Main duties of the job
1. To support the development and implementation of PPHS within the organization working with colleagues across Greater Manchester and align to the PPHS Wave 3 Implementer programme. You will be working collaboratively with physiotherapy services in the trust that deliver PPHS.
2. To implement and provide specialist evidence-based care for women with childbirth related perineal trauma.
3. To act as a significant educational resource to health professionals in CRPT, OASI and pregnancy related bladder/bowel dysfunction.
4. To liaise with women’s health physiotherapists in providing training to midwives on pelvic floor muscle exercises (PFME) in order that they can deliver appropriate preventive antenatal PFME guidance for the women that they care for.
5. To lead in the development and promotion of Trust guidelines and protocols for women requiring perineal suturing and bladder care and OASI.
6. To improve governance, patient safety and continuity of care in women with obstetric pelvic floor injury.
7. To promote education within maternity services to continue to improve intrapartum and postpartum perineal and bladder care.
8. To work with and support the Obstetric team in the day-to-day management of the OASI/Perineal Urogynaecology service and to make a significant contribution to the strategic direction of the OASI and perineal trauma service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide a visible clinical leadership presence within the Trust and the wider Greater Manchester PPHS network, promoting the role of the Midwife and providing advice on policy and guidelines concerning pregnancy, childbirth, and associated complexities locally. You will have the experience and ability to provide clinical support for midwives in complex cases. One of your priorities will be to support improvements in and development of maternity services, to improve the experience for women, their families, and staff.
2. Develop care pathways and lead on the development and implementation of a variety of action plans reviewing maternity services in partnership with the Head/ Deputy of Midwifery / Consultant Midwife and in line with internal governance reporting and external working groups.
3. Ensure local and national policy is disseminated, understood, and implemented.
4. Promote the benefit of research within the midwifery profession, sharing evidence through a variety of learning events.
Person specification
* General Education Completed: Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* Clinical experience of perineal care and repair with a sound knowledge of pelvic health care issues.
* Experience of working in an acute healthcare / hospital setting undertaking a range of clinical commitments.
* Experience of supporting Education
