There are daily consultant ward rounds with the expectation that every patient will have a daily senior medical review. There are efforts to develop enhanced care for frail older people and alternatives to hospital admission, such as a virtual Frailty ward.
In-patient care is undertaken predominantly on Wards 6a and 6b, which have 28 beds each. This post will input into the care of older people's wards, the orthopaedic wards, and the Frailty services, but the service model is in continuous evolution in order to meet the demands of the population. The successful post holder would be expected to participate fully in innovating the service for older people.
The Frailty team works supporting the emergency department and IAC and have a dedicated SDEC (Same day Emergency care) unit. They also support the Frailty Virtual ward.
The team provides General Geriatric clinics and specialized clinics such as Falls, Movement disorders, and unspecific symptom pathway input and collaboration with neighbourhood teams in the East Coast.
All members of the department meet monthly in HCOP pan-Trust Clinical Governance to discuss various aspects of the service, review complaints, and consider new proposals.

It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations or outreach district general hospital clinics.

Consideration will be given for appropriate/necessary time off in lieu when the post holder has completed their on-call commitment, in particular following weekend working and physically being called into work.
