Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Research and Development Dept at Epsom & St Helier Universities NHS Trust as Research Assistant. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is keen to work in a Clinical Research Environment.
You will work as part of the Research Team; supporting and delivering high quality research. There is an expectation to work primarily on supporting the Lumella trial. The maternity research team supports studies across a range of specialities so there may be opportunity to support other NIHR activities during any periods of reduced workload for Lumella.
The post holder will work primarily at Epsom Hospital, but may also be required to support research activity elsewhere in the Trust and work cross site.
You will have excellent organisational, IT, a can do attitude to work, interpersonal skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
An understanding of the principles of research would be helpful, but specific training will be given to the successful candidate to undertake the role.
A visit to the department or having a chat to the team would be recommended when applying for this post.

Main duties of the job
Research Data Management and Quality
* Collecting patient data from patient notes and the Trusts electronic systems in order to record clinical trial data onto electronic or paper Case Report Forms (CRF).
* To ensure that collected data from all trials meets the protocol requirement and is complete and accurate.
* To check the validity and completeness of research data collected and take action to obtain or correct missing or contradictory data, to ensure that clean data sets are provided for analysis.
* To resolve queries by initiating correspondence or direct telephone contact with research nurses/clinicians and other relevant healthcare professionals and ensure that reporting timeframes are met.
Patient Recruitment/Retention
* Be able to consent & recruit participants to the study and perform study specific point of care test.
* To book and follow up participants for research visits.
* Provide support for study data monitoring.
* Conduct telephone calls to patients to capture data required for clinical trials and to document appropriately and accurately.
* To deal sensitively and in a professional manner with patients in person and on the telephone.
* We would like the postholder to be consent & recruit participants and take samples (phlebotomy) skills as well.
* To process potentially distressing and highly sensitive information appropriately and confidentially.
* To exercise appropriate analysis and judgement when dealing with complex situations and to know when to ask for assistance from senior colleagues.
* To attend study set up, advertising and reporting meetings.
* Provide robust set up and administration of new and follow up visits.

Essential criteria
* Undergraduate degree or relevant experience in working with the public in a customer facing role.
* Numeracy and Literacy Skills (GCSE Science, Maths, English or equivalent).
Desirable criteria
* Trained in Good Clinical Practice.
* Experience in Data Collection.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of working in a healthcare or administrative role with maternity women.
* Experience of using MS applications and other databases.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent Interpersonal Skills, able to consent women for trials.
