Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Out Patient Antimicrobial Therapy team (OPAT) based at St Jamess University Hospital. We are expanding our service to benefit more patients and reduce their length of stay in hospital. We are a small team of clinical nurse specialists and we are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic and dedicated Band 6 nurse who possess excellent interpersonal skills to join us. The OPAT team provide an excellent standard of care for patients predominately receiving outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy which the community team administer or is provided in our OPAT clinic. This improves the patients experience, reduces unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitates early safe discharge, reducing the length of inpatient stay in hopsital. Main duties of the job The team work closely with the CIVAS team in the community providing antimicrobial therapy in the OPAT clinic at St James, further to this, we run COPAT (Complex OutPatient Antimicrobial Therapy) telephone clinic with Specialist Pharmacists to support and monitor patients taking oral antimicrobials. You will be required to support the Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to:- Manage, co-ordinate and prioritise a caseload of patients requiring IV therapy within the OPAT Virtual ward. Assist in the development and delivery of competency based training and the education of patients within the specialist field of IV Therapy. You will need confidence working autonomously and in your decision making skills. You will act as a resource for patients, nursing and medical colleagues, and actively participate in further development and expansion of the service within the Trust.
