We have an exciting opportunity for a 9-12-month fixed term contract, covering family leave, as a Head of Strategy at the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
The purpose of the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Strategy and Impact team is to support the charity in developing, setting and measuring the performance of cross-organisational strategies that enhance the BHF's lifesaving impact.
In this role you'll focus on supporting BHF develop and implement the research and health pillars (mission) of its organisational strategy.
This is a pivotal moment in BHF's history, with the strategy team at the forefront of shaping the charity's future. BHF is mid-way through reviewing and refreshing its organisational strategy, with the ambition of setting a path to save and improve more lives than ever before.
Working closely with the other Heads of Strategy you'll support our Chief Executive, Chief Scientific and Medical Officer, and the charity's wider leadership team to finalise this refreshed direction and oversee the implementation programme that will turn our ambitions into reality.
In addition to working on the strategy review, you'll instigate, deliver, and influence activity in five inter-related areas:
1. Conducting futures, foresight and associated analysis to identify and assess strategic challenges and opportunities for BHF
2. Leading implementation of BHF's organisation-wide strategic initiatives
3. Strategic planning to ensure robust, strategically aligned plans across BHF
4. Providing strategic performance and impact analysis to enable the organisation to assess progress in the delivery of BHF's Strategy
5. Supporting the running of the Chief Executive's Office
The role reports into the BHF's Director of Strategy & Impact and works alongside two other Heads of Strategy.
Working arrangements
Please note this is a 9-12 month fixed term contract covering family leave.
This is a dual location role, with your working time split between your home and another BHF office. There will be a requirement to attend meetings and workshops at our London Office approximately once a week, but this can vary depending on projects and work within the team.
The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so you must be prepared to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause. Most of our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office each week, on average.
About you
With a strong understanding and application of strategic analysis, strategy development, strategic planning and strategy consulting principles, you'll have excellent communication and team building skills, able to develop and grow relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leaders, across multiple business areas.
To complement the skills of the other Heads of Strategy, you'll have a strong knowledge and understanding of biomedical science (preferably cardiovascular) as well as the wider research ecosystem.
With previous experience of developing and delivering strategy across a range of areas within complex organisational environments, you'll also have experience in leading and running complex projects/programmes and developing and managing performance reporting systems and frameworks.
You'll also be able to think creatively above and beyond immediate requirements, able to influence and persuade others, including senior leaders, to enable consensus within groups and to foster innovation across an organisation.
