The Pharmacy department is looking for a Specialist Support Pharmacist - Surgery and Critical Care to join the team. You should be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have extensive hospital-based pharmaceutical experience.
This is a newly created post specialist post. The post holder will lead the elective surgical pharmacy team, and support the wider MDT in the provision of pharmacy services, help in the creation and embedding of a ward-led Level 1 service and support in the development of surgical guidelines.
In addition, the post holder will be an integrated member of the Nutrition MDT and support in the provision of PN services, as well as the opportunity to develop and upskill to support the Critical Care Lead Pharmacist in our Adult Critical Care Unit.
You will use your medicines optimisation knowledge and skills to enhance the patient experience and improve flow across the Trust. In return, we can offer support to develop your career and we actively encourage all of our Senior Pharmacists to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing course.
Main duties of the job
1. Work closely with the Lead Surgical Pharmacy Technician to deliver a patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to patients within the elective Surgical Wards.
2. Develop and evaluate clinical services to the adult elective surgical wards at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust and implement areas for improvement to support patient flow and patient experience.
3. Support the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to the Trust Adult Critical Care Unit in the absence of the Critical Care Pharmacist.
4. Provide a clinical pharmacy service and support medical optimisation to Level 1 patients based on the Unit.
5. Contribute to the timely discharge of patients being discharged from the surgical wards by ensuring TTAs are prepared prior to discharge.
6. Improve patient experience by providing patient counselling and education of medications prior to discharge.
7. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to support medical and nursing staff, as well as allied healthcare professionals.
8. Create and implement surgical guidelines as necessary.
9. Monitor and evaluate the pharmacy services provided in accordance with the set objectives to ensure that they are of high quality and that departmental standards are met.
10. Participate in audits and service reviews in accordance with the set objectives agreed with the Lead Pharmacist for Critical Care.

Experience
* Extensive hospital-based experience.
Qualifications
* Registered with GPhC.
* Clinical Diploma in General Pharmacy practice or relevant experience.
* NMP qualification or working towards this.
