As a Senior Engineering Geologist/ Ground Modeller, you will lead and oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring quality control and successful delivery. You will bring knowledge of offshore site characterization, work with geophysical and geotechnical survey data, and develop ground models to provide meaningful insights.
What you will be doing.
As our Senior Engineering Geologist/ Ground Modeller, you will work independently and lead by example, while actively seeking opportunities with clients, managing projects, and delivering subject matter expertise.
In addition, you will:
1. Provide specialist advisory services and strategic guidance to clients on renewable energy projects, delivering within established timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
2. Lead and manage workflows and processes required for the delivery of ground models, which currently includes the following activities:
o Desk study data research, appraisal and collation.
o Terrain evaluation and mapping.
o Subsurface geophysical data interpretation (through collaboration with the geophysics team)
o Integrated geotechnical unitisation
o Geohazard appraisal and interpretation.
o Report, chart and GIS database development.
3. Contribute to other geo-consulting activities within the team, including quantitative risk assessments, geospatial analysis, input to EIA, geotechnical characterisation.
4. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
5. Lead research and development projects, which may involve creating innovative engineering tools and solutions.
6. Provide technical support and leadership to technical teams, assist in specialist domains and verify deliverables to ensure quality.
7. Supervise, coach and develop team members on projects and through separate mentoring.
8. Undertake the role of line manager to members of the ground model team.
9. Build and nurture client relationships, support new business opportunities, leverage networks and convert leads into contracts.
10. Lead preparation of proposals aligned to business objectives, maintain CRM data.
11. Share knowledge and experience to elevate OWC's consultancy capabilities, through internal/external training, thought leadership, etc.
12. Support OWC to achieve business KPIs such as revenue, profitability and business development targets.
13. Ensure deliverables and allocated projects comply with all policies, procedures and standards.
The role is based in Oxford, UK; however, we consider applications from other locations within the United Kingdom, and the candidate should have the right to live and work in the UK with flexibility in working hours. Some offshore or onsite work may be a requirement of the job and may include overseas travel.
What we are looking for.
We are looking for an individual with strong commercial acumen in engineering consultancy, a deep understanding of offshore site characterization, and experience in geophysical survey or geotechnical data acquisition. Additionally, your experience in guiding teams, developing ground models, and technical QC will be crucial for delivering the geoscience elements of renewable energy projects. In addition, you will have:
* BSc in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geography or other related subject.
* 5 years or more in a relevant earth science-related role.
* A strong commercial background in engineering consultancy.
* Experience in guiding and overseeing the work of others, including technical QC, and leading a project through to completion.
* Knowledge of offshore engineering industries.
* Experience in geophysical survey and/or geotechnical data acquisition.
* Experience in interpreting geo-data and developing ground models.
* Appreciation of the development, construction and operational phases of renewable projects.
Competencies and Capabilities:
* Ability to think and understand in two- and three-dimensions.
* Ability to project manage effectively, balance competing priorities, and manage others.
* Excellent report writing skills.
* Advanced knowledge of MS Office package.
* Advanced use of GIS software, including the ESRI suite.
* Possesses excellent interpersonal abilities and actively contributes as a valuable team member.
* Exhibits a sociable and practical nature, underpinned by a resilient character.
* Demonstrates a keen eye for detail, numerical precision, and adept prioritization skills.
* Displays exceptional organizational skills and is self-motivated.
* Proficient in both spoken and written English communication.
* Ability to work under own initiative with minimum supervision.
Desirable Skills:
* First or upper second-class honours degree.
* Further education (Master or PhD) in relevant area.
* Hold or be working towards chartered geologist (CGeol) status.
* Experience acting as onshore ground investigation supervisor and/or offshore client representative.
* Knowledge of basic principles of engineering foundations for offshore structures.
* Proficiency in the use of geophysical interpretation software (preferably S&P Global Kingdom suite).
