Job Title SEN Community Learning Coordinator Hours: part-time up to 10 hours average per week (with extra hours during school holidays) Rates of Pay £20.00 to £25.00 per hour (depending on skills and SEN experience) Work Area / Location – Lichfield, Staffordshire Closing date – May 2025 Lichfield, Staffordshire - Sessions include one after school, one weekend session and admin hours for prep Starting – As soon as possible Responsible to – Employers representative Responsible for coordinating the transfer of learning from education into the community as part of preparation for adulthood for a vulnerable young teen male with SEN. Liaising with school therapists and teaching team to understand current work around the Young Person. Translate this into practice during community engagement outside of school. Provide scaffolding, modelling and co-regulation during social interaction and sensory experiences. Develop awareness for the Young Person around safety in the community and online. Responsible for sourcing and creating opportunities for the Young Person to develop safe friendships, positive self-esteem and practise life skills. Admin hours allow for time to liaise with school personnel on current transfer of learning needs, source social opportunities, connect with venues, establish bespoke activities and debrief. You will contribute to feedback at the Young Person's service meetings, track success of community provisions and keep records of observations of young person's progress against his preparation for adulthood outcomes and his ability to transfer learning from school into day to day living. Experience Will suit someone with direct SEN experience with excellent relationship building skills having worked with young people with Autism, ADHD and trauma. Ideally the applicant will have a qualification in SEN Teaching or similar field. They will show an in-depth understanding of practices to support social skills, emotional regulation, sensory needs and adaptions that might be required in a community setting. They will understand current teen interests and be able to connect at a young person's level. They will be proactive and work independently to get things done in a timely manner. A good sense of “teen” humour, a creative and flexible approach is needed for this role to be successful. The role The young person is high energy, has a likeable personality, is able bodied and has unique set of fun interests. He is supported by Children's Disability Social Services and has an EHCP. As the SEN Community Learning Coordinator, you will work independently outside of a school setting, but you will be guided by the SEN school team on bespoke strategies for supporting the Young Person in navigating social interactions with peers, developing life skills and awareness of how to advocate for help and reasonable adjustments while out in the community. You will also work with other community support workers as the Lead for the Young Person. You will be employed directly with the family. The role requires a car and clean driving license. The position is hourly paid and travel expenses/mileage will also be covered.
