Head of Legal and Support Services and Monitoring Officer

We are currently seeking a new senior officer who will play a vital role in our future success. Our Head of Legal and Support Services manages 27 staff, covering legal and democratic services as well as data protection and communications. As Monitoring Officer, the role will put you at the heart of the political process and we are therefore seeking an experienced and resilient local government legal expert with the ability to find solutions and offer clear and robust advice to officers and members. The role reports directly to the Chief Executive and provides a fantastic opportunity to work for one of the biggest and highest performing districts in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage the Legal and Support Services team of 27 staff.
2. Provide legal advice and support on democratic services, data protection, and communications.
3. Act as Monitoring Officer, ensuring compliance with legal and statutory obligations.
4. Offer clear and robust advice to council officers and members.
5. Engage with the political process and contribute to effective decision-making.
Benefits:
* Unspecified hours of work subject to a minimum of 36.25 hours per week with an annual salary of £64,241 to £74,525 plus annual car allowance of £4,500 and, as Monitoring Officer, an additional £5,319 per annum.
