Technicians can work in a variety of sectors - there are Vehicle Technicians, IT Technicians, Maintenance Technicians, and many more. Generally speaking, any Technician job will mean taking responsibility for the repair and maintenance of certain equipment. Additionally, Technicians are responsible for regular testing of equipment, and are sometimes in charge of sourcing the required tools or gear needed for the job. Technicians will also be required to provide cost estimates in cases of ongoing maintenance or on-the-spot repairs, and generally need to compile technical reports concerning any problems and associated action taken to resolve them.
It can often be important for Technicians to hold a degree in their relevant field, especially for IT-focused roles, but not always a necessity. A good understanding of maths and science can be helpful for a Technician of any stripe, and being a good problem solver is also essential. Strong written and verbal communication skills can be important for any Technician, especially as they will often be required to explain complicated concepts in an easy to understand way. Excellent attention to detail, and being comfortable working as part of a team are also essential traits to have.
