Health Care Assistant - Bracknell Dialysis Unit

The HCA will be expected to perform renal-specific competences relating to haemodialysis skills. You will be trained in these abilities. You will be required to have some renal specialised knowledge to be able to provide excellent care to the haemodialysis patients. The HCA haemodialysis skills clinical competencies will thus also need to be fulfilled. Following the training, you will be expected to perform these renal specific skills duties among others as an HCA assigned on the Acute Dialysis Team or in the Chronic Haemodialysis Units.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparation of equipment for haemodialysis.
* Pre & post HD weighing of patients including calculation of wheelchair weight.
* Assisting patients with manual handling- transfer using hoist/ Banana board or SARA Steady.
* Using therapy monitor.
* Lining & priming of HD machines.
* Disconnecting patients from HD (patients with fistula as vascular access).
* Cleaning/ disinfecting of HD machines.
* Appropriate segregation & disposal of waste.
* HD materials stocking levels and ordering.
* Using online Transport booking system (SCAS).
* Efficient use of renal IT system- CV5.
* Escalating concerns when observed in a timely and appropriate manner to the registered nurse.

The post holder will provide high quality essential care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner:
* Acting always in the patient's best interests.
* Protecting and maintaining the patient's privacy and dignity at all times.
* Providing individualised care for a diverse group of patients respecting personal beliefs and preferences.
* Alerting the Registered Practitioner and/or Ward/Department Manager to any change or concern relating to the welfare of the patient in a timely manner.
* Undertaking specific clinical skills relevant to clinical area following training and assessment of competence e.g. performing venepuncture, cannulation and escorting patients.
* Providing enhanced levels of care to patients requiring additional supervision and support to ensure their personal safety and wellbeing needs are met.
* Providing supervision and guidance to junior/less-experienced staff.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification and Training
* Completed Care Certificate
* Successful completion of Trust's Band 2 Developmental Passport or ability to demonstrate equivalent level of competence
* QCF level 3 in Health or Health and Social Care
* T Level in Health
Experience
* Experience as a Health Care Assistant within an acute hospital environment or equivalent setting
* Previous experience of working within relevant specialty.
