Applications invited for the post of Lower limb reconstructive microsurgery fellow' to join a dynamic team of specialist plastic surgeons, delivering high quality orthoplastic care for extremity trauma as part of the South Wales Trauma Network. We are looking for candidates who will help deliver a high quality orthoplastic service as part of the SWTN. The post aims to provide post FRCS Plast (or equivalent) specialist training and experience in lower limb reconstruction plastic surgery major trauma. Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery is based at Morriston Hospital, Swansea and provides outreach services to nearly all the acute hospitals in South Wales serving a population of 2.3M people. Since the establishment of the SWTN and The Welsh Major Trauma Centre at the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff in September 2020, The WCBPS has been instrumental in providing the 8am to 8pm weekday cover for major and lower limb trauma at the MTC in Cardiff. The Lower Limb service is a rapidly expanding service that undertakes combined orthoplastic lower limb reconstruction at Morriston Hospital, Swansea following successful transfer of patients who have been stabilised at the initial injury. Main duties of the job - Supporting the current orthoplastic service across the SWTN in attaining BOAST 4 compliance. - Heavily involved in the MDT management of open lower limb trauma - including management decisions as part of the MDT, complex surgical planning of the primary and definitive procedures, carrying out the primary and definitive surgeries with members of the orthoplastic team. - Attend regular orthoplastic MDT clinics and MDT's for the management and follow up of acute and chronic lower limb conditions. - The candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team approach alongside medical staff, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals. - The post holder will be encouraged to partake in departmental research and teaching during their time in the department. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly between the Major Trauma Centre in Cardiff and The WCBPS in Swansea, depending on where the training experiences are available, and will be fully supported by the current Orthoplastic team.
