We are looking for a motivated, experienced Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV to join our team in County Durham. Based at Bishop Auckland Hospital, you will work alongside other Medical, Nursing and Administrative staff.
The Sexual Health Service provides integrated sexual health services throughout County Durham & Darlington delivered by a multi-disciplinary team. The service is commissioned by two local authorities, Durham County Council and Darlington Borough Council. The level 3 hubs are based at three hospital sites: University Hospital of North Durham (UHND), Bishop Auckland Hospital (BAH), and Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH). These level 3 services have open access and provide expertise for complex sexually transmitted infections, genital dermatoses, and outpatient HIV treatment and care as well as screening. There is dedicated HIV pharmacy support. Full contraception provision is available in these clinics and the level 3 hubs also have a central role in post-exposure prophylaxis to blood-borne viruses and providing PrEP to eligible patients. There are level 2 spokes at various locations in County Durham which are part of the integrated service.
Main duties of the job
1. Delivery of high quality, comprehensive sexual health services which will include HIV outpatient treatment and care, adopting up to date national guidelines.
2. Provide leadership at BAH and act as a source of advice both within and outside the Trust.
3. Provide supervision, teaching, and training to clinical staff, students, and external partners.
4. Develop good working relationships with other disciplines eg microbiology and public health.
5. Engage with appraisal, job planning, and revalidation processes.
6. Engage with local and regional MDT arrangements.
7. Participate in local, regional, and national audits.
8. Keep comprehensive electronic patient records.
9. Engage with and fulfil clinical governance requirements.
10. Provide data for local and national recording requirements.
11. Work with commissioners, care group managers, service users, and other stakeholders (eg pharmacies) to develop and improve the service.
12. Engage in the commissioning process, as appropriate.
13. Engage in research studies where appropriate (National Institute of Health Research Portfolio studies).
14. Contribute to the management team of the service.
15. Flexible working in line with the needs of the service.

As we are responsive to service users' needs, clinic times may change and some staff groups may be expected to work in the evenings and at the weekend. The following provides scheduling details of the clinical activity and clinically related activity components of the job plan which occur at regular times in the week. Agreement should be reached between the appointee and their Clinical lead/clinical director with regard to the scheduling of all other activities, including the Supporting Professional Activities.

Essential
* Full and specialist registration with GMC (and Licence to Practice).
* Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or should have attained or be within 6 months of attaining CCT in Specialty at time of interview.
Experience
Essential
* Have experience in independently managing people with HIV in an outpatient setting and be able to prescribe antiretroviral therapy in line with national and local guidelines.
* Have experience in managing complex sexual health conditions.
* Have experience in managing people who have been sexually assaulted.
* Have experience in managing young people and thorough knowledge of safeguarding children and child sexual exploitation.
* Experience of medical teaching and clinical supervision.
* Understands clinical governance.

* Competent in doing genital skin biopsies.
* Experience of research methodology.
* Interest in research.
Qualifications
Essential
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine.
* Diploma in HIV Medicine.
