Applications are invited for a full-time locum Consultant Hepatologist to join our team at Nottingham University Hospitals for 18 months, to address increasing demand for Hepatology services.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be fully trained in the management of patients with acute and chronic Hepatology conditions and in managing acute GI emergencies, including GI bleeding. The full-time post is based on a 10 Programmed Activity (PA) job plan which does not include general medicine, offering the opportunity to join a cohesive and progressive Gastroenterology and Hepatology department with a strong clinical and academic national profile.

The successful applicant will join a team of 22 Gastroenterologists and 13 Hepatologists, fully supported by specialist nurses and advanced diagnostic services.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Inpatient duties will be based on the 28 bedded Hepatology ward at QMC and shared across the 10 Hepatology consultants in blocks of 2 or 3 weeks.
Two hot Hepatology clinics are linked to inpatient blocks, providing urgent new, admission reduction and post-discharge appointments, supported by a Hepatology nurse specialist.
The post holder will be expected to deliver Hepatology outpatient clinics which will be tailored to the post holder's expertise. Outpatient clinics take place at both the City and QMC campus, together with expansion of the specialty Hepatology outreach clinics throughout our East Midlands liver network.
Person specification
Professional Registration
* MBBS/MBCH and MRCP or equivalent
* Eligible for entry on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of interview date
* Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice
* Teaching qualification e.g. Masters/ Diploma in medical education
Clinical Skills/Experience
* Completion of recognised subspecialty training within Hepatology
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities
* Comprehensive technical competence in Endoscopy including GI bleed management
Teaching, Audit & Research
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit
