Cromwell High School is a specialist high school for pupils aged 11 to 19 who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple disabilities, complex autism and communication needs. Due to an increase in pupil numbers, we have a number of exciting opportunities across school in a variety of roles.
The successful applicant will be part of a dedicated school team working with teaching staff and other teaching assistants in providing guidance, support and education for pupils. This may include support in lessons, personal care, therapy and communication programmes within both small group and individual situations. All applicants should be willing to work with any class throughout the school.
We are seeking to employ positive, enthusiastic people whose personal attributes will contribute positively to a committed team of staff. The successful applicants for the post will potentially be required to work across the school and sixth form with a wide range of pupils and needs and be flexible to support in any of the classes and age phases. The candidate must have:
1. Experience of working in an education or care setting supporting children or young people.
2. An awareness of learning difficulties and the challenges these can present.
3. The ability to lead small group and 1:1 learning.
4. The ability to work in a team and develop strategies to allow pupils with complex needs to access learning and promote positive behaviour.
5. The physical ability to continue to support secondary aged pupils through periods of challenging behaviour, strictly following the principles and procedures of the school’s training programme (which prioritises avoidance of this need).
Please note that Cromwell High School has the highest standards of child protection and that this post is exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 and all candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
