Main Purpose of the Role:
To provide and assist in provision of rescue and firefighting services on behalf of London City Airport. To provide Duty Crew services and contribute to the safety and smooth running of the operation of the airport.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
* Assist in aircraft incidents involving rescue and/or firefighting to affect control or containment of the incident.
* Respond to any emergency involving aircraft during the operational hours of the airport as required meeting the response objectives as stated in the EASA & CAA regulations.
* Respond & assist in rescue and/or firefighting involving airport premises and/or property as required by the OIC.
* Render humanitarian assistance for any incidents off the airfield as required by the OIC (e.g. road traffic accidents, capsized boats).
* Parade at the correct timings for the start of duty for the Watch Manager, ensuring that the correct category/manpower/appliances & equipment is ready for operational use.
* Assist in fire prevention duties within airport premises including testing of fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, hand fire appliances and hose reels, positioning of signage and making Centrik reports and completing records as required by the OIC.
* Assist in the inspection, testing and maintenance of rescue and firefighting equipment, highlighting deficiencies to the OIC, recording all information on PDR PRO.
* Complete special service requests to the fire service (e.g. apron wash downs) ensuring this doesn’t affect your responses, ensuring communications are always maintained.
* Attend training courses as required to obtain the necessary competencies & qualifications to competently complete tasks of an operational Airport Fire Fighter.
* Assist in airport staff fire training and present information and demonstrations to support fire safety on the airport, support with external/internal training as required.
* Escort visitors to the Airport Fire Station, escort personnel on temporary badges always when in your areas of responsibility, monitor all work within the department.
* Render assistance to PRM passengers while embarking and disembarking aircraft, support in the terminal if required.
* Assist in the clearing of runway, taxiways and apron area (e.g. foreign object debris (FOD), snow etc) complete Centrik reports when required.
* Complete any other task reasonable for the safe and expeditious turnaround of aircraft whilst maintaining your response times.
* To take part in ongoing technical and practical training maintain your competencies, ensuring you are up to date with all requirements and recorded in PDR PRO (Training is an individual responsibility).
* Perform duties in the airport fire service watch room as per the established procedures within London City Airport Fire Service, provide breaks & stand in during the absence of watch room controllers, completing tasks in line with 699 AFF1.
* Contribute to the general good housekeeping of the Fire Station, reporting anything that affects the safety of the team or others, supporting with the development of a clean & safe environment.
* Ensure any hazards or unsafe acts are reported through the Centrik reporting system and to the relevant Crew managers.
* Manage all undress uniform, sports uniform & PPE (Firefighting Uniform) correctly to the manufacturer’s recommendations, PPE to be logged on PDR PRO for audibility, stored correctly in the correct racking.
* Uniforms to be worn correctly & inline with the required response for the airport & emergency situations.
* Daily inspections to be completed for all equipment that could or would be responsible for during the duration of your shift.
* Complete courses relevant to the position of firefighter, RYA, LGV, CAA qualified firefighter course, SCBA & have a good working knowledge of all aerodrome manuals.
* Support the Crew Managers in all operational matters within the duration of your duties, paying attention to all equipment & the station on time of handover at the end of shift.
* Follow the laid down daily schedules of work, following break guidelines, stand downs being the discretion of the OIC.
* Follow the set roster unless changes have been accepted & discussed with the watch OIC.
Key Competencies:
* CAA Firefighting qualification, MOC – possible requalification if required.
* SCBA Qualification – Maintaining competency through MOC.
* LGV – If not obtained working towards – appliance competencies.
* RYA – Rescue Rib competencies.
* Pathway qualifications in PDR PRO – competencies to be maintained.
* PPE.
* All ARFFS equipment.
Qualifications:
* You must be a fully trained firefighter by a recognised UK provider and in possession of a current Aviation Firefighter Initial Qualification, ideally with qualified to Crew Commander/Manager Level.
* Computer literate – used for the watch room & training competency records.
* Physically fit to complete all tasks as required for a Firefighter.
* CAA Licences.
* Polite & courteous.
* Positive & proactive.
* Able to obtain Security CTC.
Hours of Work:
44 hours per week, includes weekends and public holidays. Flexibility required.
