Randstad Student Support is seeking Specialist-one-to-one Study Skills Support Workers to provide tailored learning support and academic guidance to autistic students at Sheffield Hallam University.
The role involves working in a hybrid environment, requiring flexibility to meet student preferences. Successful candidates must be able to travel to the local university or college for in-person sessions and offer online support when needed.
As a Specialist-one-to-one Study Skills Support Worker, key responsibilities include:
* Developing independence in students
* Bolstering strengths and learning strategies
* Creating organisation and time management plans
* Designing action plans to stay on track with studies
* Enhancing research skills through varied sources
* Distinguishing suitable sources and correct reference usage
* Improving comprehension skills in reading and writing
A deep understanding of individual student needs is essential, with concerns addressed in a timely manner. Confidentiality and professionalism are paramount, with relevant information shared with Randstad to ensure optimal student service.
To succeed in this specialist role, candidates must possess the necessary qualifications and training. The Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) funds students, so all candidates must adhere to the qualification framework set by the DfE.
Qualifications required include:
* Undergraduate degree level (level 6 as minimum)
* Teaching qualification
* Extensive training in adult autism
Eligible training routes include:
* 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non-medical helper package)
* The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies
Desirable skills include:
* Experience working with autistic clients
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to identify ways to help students build on their learning strengths while maintaining a confidential and professional relationship
* Punctuality and reliability
* Good organisational skills
* Ability to manage a caseload of students
