Chelford Farm Supplies are looking to recruit a Purchasing Specialist to join their growing business.
Established over 40 years ago, Chelford Farm Supplies is a family-owned business based in the heart of Cheshire. Since it first opened its doors in 1975, Chelford Farm Supplies has developed its reputation as one of Cheshire’s largest suppliers of Farming, Equestrian & Machinery products. As Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day running of our purchasing department and stock management system.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the flow of information from suppliers to ensure purchase orders, pricing and new products are accurately updated.
* Lead the procurement and stock management function, ensuring alignment with business goals and operational efficiency.
* Lead and oversee the purchasing and goods-in team, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of daily purchasing activities for the business.
* Negotiate competitive pricing, delivery terms, and contract conditions with suppliers, ensuring value for money and sustainability.
* Provide strategic recommendations for supplier rationalisation and stock portfolio management, assessing turnover, profitability, availability, and storage space.
* Collaborate with senior management to ensure stock records are continuously updated and accurate, reflecting current business needs.
* Manage supplier communications, ensuring accurate and timely updates of purchase orders, pricing changes, and new product introductions.
* Supervise the annual stock-taking process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal control standards.
* Actively participate in monthly management meetings, contributing to discussions on procurement strategies, performance, and continuous improvement.
* Oversee stock levels, utilising MRP systems to maintain optimal inventory in line with seasonal fluctuations and minimum stock requirements.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, working collaboratively to improve product quality, lead times, and sustainability practices.
* Assess and manage procurement risks, including supply chain disruptions and cost volatility, implementing contingency plans to mitigate potential impacts on business operations.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processes, leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
* Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and procedures by regularly training and guiding the purchasing team to maintain consistency, accuracy, and adherence to company standards, while also identifying areas for process improvements to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.
Key Requirements:
* Excellent communication skills.
* 2-5 years Procurement Background within a similar industry.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to manipulate large amounts of data in Excel using VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
* Commercially astute.
* Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing suppliers.
* Analytical mindset with the ability to assess and forecast purchasing needs.
Desirable Requirements:
* Proficient in SAP or other MRP system.
* MCIPS Qualified or working towards.
* Knowledge and understanding of LEAN principles.
* Direct line management of a team.
* Agricultural, equine and machinery product knowledge.
Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8.30 am – 5.00pm
