Job Description:
The Garage Technician - Electrician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting all electrical systems and components of the race cars and pit equipment. This includes ensuring the reliability and performance of electrical systems during race events, practice sessions, and in the workshop. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
What you will be doing:
· Electrical System Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair all electrical systems and components of the race cars and pit equipment. Perform regular diagnostics and testing to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
· Troubleshooting and Repairs: Quickly diagnose and resolve electrical issues that arise during practice sessions, qualifying, and races. Implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure the race cars are ready for competition.
· System Upgrades and Modifications: Assist in the design and implementation of electrical system upgrades and modifications to improve performance. Work closely with engineers to integrate new technologies and components.
· Data Management: Manage and analyse data from electrical systems to identify trends and potential issues. Ensure accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
· Compliance and Safety: Ensure all electrical systems comply with FIA regulations and safety standards. Conduct regular safety checks and report any hazards or issues to the Chief Mechanic.
· Equipment Management: Maintain and calibrate electrical diagnostic tools and equipment. Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order and ready for use.
· Team Support: Work closely with mechanics, engineers, and other team members to ensure smooth operations in the pit and workshop. Provide technical support and assistance as needed during race events.
· Training and Development: Stay updated on the latest developments in electrical systems and technologies. Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
· Technical certification or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field, such as a Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), or a BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Automotive Technology.
· Hold BS7671: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Qualification and Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing (2391) certification.
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in an electrical technician role, ideally within preferably Formula 1.
· Strong technical knowledge of automotive electrical systems and components.
· Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
· Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Work Environment Physical Demands
· Ability to work and prioritize within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential.
· Extensive domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
· This position may require lifting heavy objects, repeated bending, squatting, and manual dexterity. The work environment is fast-paced and mentally demanding, involving machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
