R and D Engineer

Overview:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced R and D engineer to work for our client across their engineering division, this is an exciting opportunity involved in Taking concept designs to production within an agreed time frame, utilizing the latest 3D modelling techniques, Producing technical manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks for production of equipment. Along with Producing design calculations using software packages and Producing concept designs and production models to agreed specifications.
This role would suit someone who has been involved in PED approvals and experience across the O and G engineering sector.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Fully committed to achieving the company policies and objectives, especially concerning quality, safety, and environment.
* Working to agreed task lists for R and D, technical, and project work, seeking clarification from the Engineering Manager when required.
* Design:
* Research into specifications, materials, and components, as instructed.
* Design calculations and simulations.
* Material Procurement:
* Issuing material requisitions for project and technical work.
* Instigation and Control:
* Assisting the Technical Director with SolidWorks PDM administration.
* Liaising with the Engineering Manager and Design Engineers to ensure full understanding of the project/task.
* Supporting the Technical Director with design optimization (cost and performance through calculation/simulation FEA/CFD).
* Creating SolidWorks technical drawings for manufacture and assembly according to company standards and agreed time schedules.
* Ensuring the designs are safe and comply with the Health and Safety Act and other governing legislation, e.g., Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (PED).
* Creating final assembly models from concepts through necessary procedures.
* Prototypes/Modifications:
* Functional/process testing to ensure equipment is fit for purpose.
* Inspecting prototypes/modifications for compliance with manufacturing drawings.
* Providing feedback to suppliers regarding NCRs/minor problems and issuing control modifications of manufacturing drawings.
* Compiling flow test results from test engineers with supervised validation from CFD as required.
* Witnessing pressure testing/flow testing to confirm acceptability of the design.
* Documentation:
* Organizing and preparing all engineering documentation requirements for project issuance.
* Compiling Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) approval documentation for submission to notified bodies to enable approval of design.
Tasks Include:
* Selection of conformity assessment modules.
* Assessment of essential safety requirements.
* Particular material appraisals.
* Design calculations for the product range.
* Manufacturing and GA drawings for the product range.
* Working procedures.
* Sales Data Sheets.
* Undertaking reasonable instructions and tasks from senior personnel, contributing to continuous improvement with the Technical Director through improved systems and processes.
Experience and Qualifications:
* Proficient in 3D modeling (SolidWorks), including assemblies and configurations.
* Experience with 2D drafting (AutoCAD or similar) from in:house training.
* Higher National Certificate (HNC) qualified in Mechanical Engineering (with practical experience).
* Proficient with Microsoft Office software, i.e., Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
* Proficient in Physics and Mathematics.
* A minimum of 2 years experience in Research and Development
* Practical skills in manufacturing, welding, piping and materials essential
* Experience using Adobe Acrobat
* AutoCAD experience essential
* SolidWorks and 3D Modelling
* ASME PV code knowledge preferred (i.e., ASME VIII)
* Experience of working within the Oil and Gas industry preferred
* Experience of filters, strainers and pressure vessels preferred
