Deputy Head of Trade Compliance
As Deputy Head of Trade Compliance, you will be assisting and supporting the Head of Trade Compliance in leading the trade compliance function within the business.
The role will include liaison with the business management and project teams to ensure that relevant Roke directives and related policies and processes are followed. You will have a strong background in trade compliance including the processes concerning the import and exporting of goods. Experience in UK and US export controls is essential.
It's not just about the Governance & Compliance experience; the Deputy Head will bring energy, initiative, attention to detail, and leadership skills to the role.
As our next Deputy Head of Trade Compliance, you will:
1. Provide expert advice and guidance to the business on international trade compliance matters to ensure compliance with UK, US (EAR and ITAR) regulations.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including legal, finance, commercial, supply chain, and logistics to integrate compliance considerations into business operations.
3. Revise/develop trade compliance policies and procedures.
4. Work with project teams to ensure control list classification, customs classification, and security classification are correct to support trade compliance with UK export and customs regulations.
5. Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, trade associations, and industry peers to stay informed about regulatory changes and best practices. Represent the company in discussions with regulatory authorities when necessary.
6. Coordinate internal audits and investigations to ensure compliance with trade laws and regulations. Address findings and implement corrective actions as needed. Accompany and manage export control audits (ECJU) and coordinate internal activities supporting the external auditors.
7. Demonstrate Roke's culture and behaviours.
The Deputy Head of Trade Compliance will demonstrate:
* Experience in UK and US ITAR/EAR export controls is essential.
* Defence Sector experience.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to prepare and review complex business documents and procedures.
* Analytical/problem solving skills and ability to document overall thinking.
Due to the nature of this role, we require you to be eligible to achieve SC clearance.
