The Medicine team supports patients with the following specialities: Renal, Endocrinology, Respiratory, Infectious Diseases, Cardiology, Oncology & Haematology, General Acute Medicine. This role will primarily sit within the Renal and Endocrinology Wards, with the potential to develop into the other speciality areas. As this is a new role, the post holder would be integral to service development, and demonstrating the benefits of diversifying our rehabilitation offer within Inpatient Therapies. UHCW NHS Trust is the regional centre for Nephrology and Transplantation for Coventry and Warwickshire. We cover up to one million patients and provide a comprehensive renal service; including all types of dialysis - for AKI, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End-stage Renal Failure (ESRF) - and both deceased donor and living transplantation. Main duties of the job You will have a 4 week supernumerary programme which will support your induction into the Trust and wider Therapies teams. The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team developing, establishing and evaluating this new service in conjunction with the medicine therapy team and the wider MDT. The postholder will promote the role exercise can have supporting patients within the medicine footprint, drawing on experiences and knowledge of exercise prescription in other clinical populations. They will support the delivery of personalised exercise training interventions, addressing maladaptation's associated with the condition and extended periods of bed rest i.e. decline in cardiorespiratory fitness and functional mobility, altered body composition, increased risk of sarcopenia and poor quality of life. The post holder will manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, using evidence-based practice, shared decision making and client-centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a defined clinical setting.
