The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in improving the health, safety & environmental performance for James Cropper.
You will provide advice and support to Leaders and employees, supporting the Head of Environmental Health and Safety, leading the implementation of the safety strategy initiatives and being involved in specific group-wide responsibilities.
You will be responsible for;
* Ensure that James Cropper complies with all current and relevant Health & Safety legal requirements across all business sectors.
* Ensure that the Health & Safety management systems meet the relevant ISO standards and are fully implemented.
* Support the development and execution of the health & safety strategy plan.
* Take responsibility for selected health & safety subjects on behalf of James Cropper plc, ensuring site-wide compliance to legal requirements and relevant standards where required.
* Represent James Cropper Group by liaising with relevant external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive, Insurers, the Police, and other enforcing and emergency services.
* Work alongside operations to provide knowledge and expertise for them to undertake Risk Management and Control, Root Cause Investigations of accidents and incidents, and ensure effective corrective preventative actions.
* Work with Teams and Group Leaders on Inspections and audits, such as PUWER, LOLER, LOTO, DSEAR (etc).
* Support the Group Head of Environmental, Health and Safety with the development and analysis of health and safety performance data and report on any findings through analysis, using conclusions to develop health & safety plans for improvement.
What will make you successful?
* NEBOSH National Diploma in Health & Safety or equivalent NVQ.
* Certified Membership of a recognised professional Health & Safety body e.g., IOSH.
* Previous experience of working as a lead health and safety professional.
* Good Health and Safety management system experience; paper industry experience would be advantageous.
* Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health, health surveillance, and its implementation.
* Contribute and develop ideas to continuously improve safety & environmental management and performance.
* Possess and use influencing skills with others as a necessary means of achieving progress in health, safety & environmental matters.
* Ability to work with others, comfortable in taking and giving direction with peers where necessary to achieve operational goals.
* Awareness and understanding of safety legislation, rules, regulations, and best practices including the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Standards, their clauses and application, keeping up to date with external health, safety & environmental legislation, and best practices.
