Swanwick School & Sports College is an ‘Outstanding’ special school with 96 pupils aged 5-16 with a variety of needs. These needs include Moderate and Severe Learning needs, Challenging Behaviour, ASD, Physical and social and emotional needs. The Governors are looking for an outstanding classroom practitioner to teach in our expanding Nurture department.
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional colleague as a Key Stage 3/4 Nurture teacher supporting our most vulnerable pupils to maximise their independence, develop their life skills and achieve their academic and qualification potential.
Pupils within this department are working at pre-key stage standards on an EYFS based thematic curriculum.
The successful candidate will:
1. Have a solid understanding of strategies and tools to support complex needs.
2. Be passionate about supporting young people to help them remove barriers to learning
3. Be able to build effective and supportive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and other agencies in order to secure the best life chances for our pupils
4. Be organised, proactive and creative in developing successful intervention strategies for vulnerable pupils
5. Be someone who can create and deliver stimulating lessons, have excellent assessment for learning strategies and know how to support pupils’ next steps in learning
6. Able to promote the school ethos through high levels of expectation, excellent behaviour management skills, being an adaptable team player and able to encourage pupil independence
7. Be able to demonstrate the ability to use ICT in an innovative and imaginative manner throughout the curriculum.
8. Have a clear understanding of thematic curriculum delivery.

We invite applications from both Early Career Teachers and more experienced teachers. Although the post involves working with key stage 3 pupils, we invite primary trained staff to apply due to the curriculum provided.
