Job overview
Working as a Logistics Operative within the logistics Team, you will be responsible for varied roles within the department including the delivery and collection of post, stores, linen and movement of stores throughout the site and externally to trust partners, as well as the internal and external movement of waste.

Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Facilities, to join our Logistics Team as a Logistics Operative. Your role will be varied and include collecting and delivering samples from pharmacies, post and supplies to and from healthcare facilities across the North West. Deliver goods and linen throughout the hospital site. Removing waste across the site, both internally and externally. The movement of stores to and from the Trust from Community partner sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* To drive Trust owned vehicles complying at all times with current Road Traffic Acts and rules within the current Highways Code.
* To ensure Samples are collected in a timely manner in accordance with the route timetable.
* To ensure that the schedule is adhered to within the timetable provided, ensuring compliance with speed limits inside and outside the hospital grounds as well as all relevant motoring law. Making sure that the vehicle is driven and parked in a professional manner at all times.
* To load the vehicle in such a way as to prevent damage or loss of goods in transit and that all goods are delivered in good order to the various district clinics, General Practitioners & Health Service deliveries.
* To ensure that vehicle checks are undertaken as per standing instructions at the start of each day that oil, water and fuel levels etc. are correct.
* To report immediately any incident or R.T.A. whilst undertaking the Driver duties.
* To report immediately any incident that may or will result in penalty points on your Driving Licence or disqualification.
* To make sure that all Health & Safety and C.O.S.H.H advice is adhered to.
* Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy inside and out at all times, and is parked safely and securely when driver is away from vehicle.
* Complete at the end of each day all paperwork including vehicle log sheets, defect reports, time sheets where applicable.
· Remove full waste bins (domestic & clinical) and replace with empty bins.
· Remove dirty laundry and replace with clean linen.
· Move office furniture and equipment (including office moves from one location to another).
· To work as a team member with flexibility for all areas of the department as and when required.
· To empty all external waste bins daily.
· To empty the brown cardboard bins and bail using the cardboard bailer, ensuring correct use of handling and operating the equipment.
· To assist compacting waste.
· To collect all confidential red bins once full and exchange for empty red bins in scheduled areas.
· To collect all sharps, cytotoxic, anatomical and pharmaceutical waste from all wards and departments, ensuring the cytotoxic and pharmaceutical waste is stored securely as instructed.
· To sweep set areas as identified by the Supervisor/Manager as and when instructed.
· To be familiar with and follow health and safety policy and procedures and to be aware of individual responsibilities under legislation, drawing any areas of potential risk to the managers.
· To aid in loading/offloading stores to wards and departments and to stock designated wards in the designated stores cupboard.
· To collect and distribute internal and external post as and when required.
· To cover in all Facilities areas/services as and when required.
· To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required.

· Verbal communication between peers and managers. Job related reporting of faults etc.
· To deal with queries and complaints with courtesy and understanding referring them where necessary to the Supervisor.

To assist the Trust in reducing healthcare acquired infections (HCAI’s) all staff should be familiar with all the Trust’s Infection Prevention policies which are appropriate to their role. You are required to attend mandatory training in Infection Prevention and be compliant with all measures known to be effective in reducing HCAI’s.
