4236 - Practice Educator - Nutrition and Hydration
12 months fixed term / secondment opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional who has a passion for nutrition and hydration, to support Barnsley Hospital NHS Trust to improve this fundamental aspect of our patients' care.
This is a new post for the Trust and will therefore provide you with an amazing opportunity to develop the role and the service. Applications for this post are invited from Registered Nurses or Allied Health Professionals who have experience with nutrition and hydration and with educating staff. Having a teaching and assessing qualification is essential.
We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual who is flexible, self-motivated, reliable, a good team player and leader. You will be committed to developing your practice and that of others to ensure that the Barnsley patients receive appropriate nutrition and hydration to support their recovery.
Main duties of the job
1. Work in collaboration with the Lead Nurses / Clinical Educators for the departments.
2. Participate in the development of clinical skills relating to nutrition and hydration across the trust in line with the standards and recommendations.
3. Promote evidence-based practice in relation to nutrition and hydration.
4. Develop and deliver both structured and unstructured training and educational sessions.
5. Promote an effective learning environment.
6. Support and advise staff in the expansion of clinical skills and knowledge relating to nutrition and hydration.
7. Support and facilitate the competency-based education package for new nursing staff, clinical support workers and AHPs.
8. Support nursing staff, CSWs and AHPs through post-registration study.
9. Forge and maintain links with the various academic establishments involved in nursing and AHPs care education.
10. Maintain links, and work in cooperation with the training and development department.
11. Participate in critical evaluation of incidents and be involved in action plans where lessons can be learnt.
12. Develop and deliver teaching packages based upon RCA or SI outcomes.
13. Develop and implement audit programmes that will evaluate the effectiveness of the skills training and education programmes.
14. Develop / implement and update policies and procedures appropriate to the department.

Knowledge and Awareness
* Knowledge of national and local agenda for nutrition and hydration.
* Knowledge around specific needs of department specific patient needs.

Experience
* Substantial and relevant post-registration experience.
* Experience of providing mentorship / practice supervision / assessment to learners in practice.
* Experience of working within teams.
* Extensive experience of working in a health care setting clinical setting.
* Experience in delivering training packages.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with the NMC or Allied Health Professional Registered with the HCPC.
* Evidence of post registration personal and professional development.
* Teaching and assessing qualification e.g. Practice Assessor.
* Professional Nurse Advocate or equivalent or working towards.
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to teach in a variety of settings.
* Ability to plan educational training programmes.
* Ability to manage change.
* Ability to work effectively both as a team member and individually.
* Ability to deliver set objectives.
* Good time management, planning and organisational skills.
