FIRE SAFETY - High Risk Building Manager
£51,515 per annum + benefits
About the role
We are seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy for the role of High-Risk Building Manager.
The High Risk Building Manager will drive forward the Services response to complex premises within the built environment. The predominant focus will be upon the high rise residential premises which are subject to legislative focus following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. However the role will not be limited to these buildings and will include other premises types deemed to be high risk.
They will work closely with those responsible and accountable for relevant premises to ensure they maintain compliance with all required legislation which is enforceable by the service.
Reporting directly to the Head of Protection you will be responsible for managing the Services response to complexities within the built environment and ensure new legislative changes are monitored and integrated into the services ways of working.

As the High Risk Building Manager you will:
1. Drive forward the services response to complex premises within the built environment.
2. Coordinate the activities of the fire safety department and the wider service when dealing with relevant buildings.
3. Liaise with regional and national partners to drive forward compliance with the relevant legislation.
4. Ensure new legislative changes are monitored and integrated into the services ways of working.
5. Work closely with those responsible and accountable for relevant premises to ensure they maintain compliance with all required legislation which is enforceable by the service.
6. Build upon existing partnerships with local authorities to ensure joint working practices develop, this will include supporting partners through their legislative processes when appropriate.
7. Take part and chair meetings when appropriate and look to engage at a national level to drive forward policy change.
8. Investigate any breaches of the fire safety legislation and coordinate the appropriate legal processes as deemed necessary ensuring that communication is maintained at all times with senior members of staff and line management.
9. Not engage in any secondary employment or otherwise unpaid activities of a Fire Safety nature within the boundaries of the 5 Local Authorities and areas covered by TWFRS that could undermine TWFRS’s position, reputation or legal standing.
We are seeking a candidate who has demonstrable experience of:
1. Working effectively and efficiently to provide a professional service in the delivery of the department’s aims and objectives.
2. Interpreting new and amended legislation and national guidance and developing strategies to ensure they are implemented appropriately.
3. Ensuring that all policies and procedures within the function are adhered to in accordance with regulations, lean thinking and value for money.
4. Preparing the production of a variety of quality information for inclusion in management and departmental reports.
5. Maintaining records and handling sensitive and confidential information.
About our Fire Safety (Protection) teams
The Fire Safety Department within Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service continues to drive forward the safety of the community within the commercial built environment ensuring those responsible for such premises are compliant with the required legislation.
We are dynamic and forward-thinking team who constantly look at innovative approaches to engaging with the community to ensure they are educated and informed about compliance with fire safety legislation. Whilst our primary focus is on education this does not prevent enforcement as and when appropriate and prosecution when it is required. In addition to commercial premises we also regulate domestic dwellings in multi occupied premises such as high risk residential premises.
The Selection Process
This is a multi-stage assessment process; successful candidates will be progressed to subsequent stages, all candidates will be notified of their outcomes following participation in a given assessment stage.
