We are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced professional for the role of Fleet Manager to successfully lead on the replacement programme for Council vehicles and plant, managing the vehicle supply and maintenance contract and associated contractors.
The successful applicant will be required to ensure the Council is meeting their statutory and Operators Licence obligations and contribute to our carbon reduction and climate mitigation strategies across Mid Devon.
You will be responsible for providing strategic direction on fleet vehicles ensuring the Council manages their fleet in the most cost effective and efficient manner. You will act as an Advisory on transport and plant compliance with all license conditions, responding effective to changes in guidance and regulations set by the Traffic Commissioner and working within key timescales to ensure compliance within the Councils Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and relevant legislation. You will monitor and reduce vehicle damage, including driver education where required.
Evidence your suitability and relevant experience for this role by having a minimum of 2 years’ experience of managing a relevant fleet section, driver training programs and accident prevention with sufficient mechanical knowledge of vehicles and mobile plant to make qualitied judgements and inspections. A clear understanding of all legislation relating to transport, a sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation. Evidence of management experience in Local Government relevant to an outward facing service would be beneficial.
The successful candidate would hold a Certificate of profession competence, Freight National (or equivalent) or be willing and able to obtain the qualification
A full driving licence is required for the role with LGV C licence desirable.
A satisfactory basic disclosure check and three years complete employment history will be required for the successful applicant.
