Registered Nurse - Paediatric Assessment Unit

The Paediatric Assessment Unit is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Paediatric Band 5 nurse to join an already established team to help develop the service offered. This currently sees patients referred for clinical assessment and/or treatment of surgical, medical or orthopaedic conditions from various sources, including GP's, A&E, and Community Midwives.
Southend's Paediatric Assessment Unit is a dedicated and friendly team committed to continuous improvements in the service. The Band 5 Nurse will assist the Manager and fellow staff in the provision and maintenance of a seamless service & highest quality care to patients.
This includes assessing, planning, delivery, and evaluation of Paediatric care for children and young people attending the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) from initial attendance through to discharge or admission to the inpatient ward. The Band 5 nurse will have a structured orientation and receive ongoing support to assist with progression within the role.
The appointable applicant will need to be a Registered Nurse Child/Register Sick Children's Nurse.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the Paediatric Band 5 role in PAU include assessing, planning, and evaluating safe and competent family-centred care to babies, children, and teenagers throughout the assessment unit. The nurse will work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of holistic individualised nursing care.
It is an essential requirement that the nurse will take reasonable care of the cleanliness of their working environment, adhere to infection control policies, procedures, and guidelines, particularly ensuring that appropriate hand hygiene practices are used at all times.
The post holder will adhere to the NMC code of Professional Conduct at all times and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as participate in all relevant aspects of the Governance process.
It is expected that the Nurse, as a reflective practitioner, will continue to develop their own capabilities and nursing knowledge in line with the Trust's career pathway where education is supported. The Nurse will ensure they maintain an up-to-date portfolio of evidence.
Please note that this role will include working shift patterns including weekends, nights, and bank holidays.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NMC registered
* EPLS/PILS
* Safeguarding Children Level 3 or equivalent.
* Nursing degree or working towards a nursing degree
Knowledge and Experience
* Recent experience of nursing in an acute Paediatric Setting
* Demonstrate knowledge of escalation and recognition of a sick deteriorating child
* Organisational skills (including time management, prioritising own caseload, initiative, escalation)
* Awareness of current Paediatric Nursing issues
* Can discuss relevant aspects of Governance
* Experience of working in Paediatric Assessment/Ambulatory Care facility
* Demonstrate knowledge of the triage process
* I.T Skills
* Phlebotomy and Cannulation
* Intravenous Administration and Central Venous Access Competent
Communication Skills
* Effective communication with service users
* Effective communication with members of MDT
Personal & People Development
* Interest in own professional development.
* Teaching/mentorship/supervision of junior staff experience

Salary: £29,970 a year (Pro Rata for Part Time)
