AFC Band 5 Senior Clinical Coder - 30 hours - Permanent
Here at Tameside & Glossop ICFT, we are embarking on an exciting period of change within our Clinical Coding department. We are embracing increased digital ways of working, preparing for the future use of electronic classifications, and looking to offer more flexible working patterns for our team.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Clinical Coder. You will need to be ACC qualified. You should be able to demonstrate competency in the use of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications, and the application of national clinical coding standards across all specialties.
We are looking for someone who is forward thinking, who has experience in coding multiple specialties, and is comfortable with increasing digital ways of working. You will be keen to mentor and support trainee staff.
You must be able to demonstrate expert knowledge in the national clinical coding rules and conventions, along with a good understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.
Main duties of the job
To work as part of a team to support the production of comprehensive clinical coded data to fulfil the Trust's internal and external information requirements. To deliver accurate and timely clinical coded data by ensuring accurate abstraction, analysis and translation of complex diagnostic and procedural medical terminology into a coded format using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and the Office of Population Census and Surveys Classification (OPCS), adhering to the rules and conventions as set down by The Terminology & Classifications Delivery Service.
Participate in the mentorship of less experienced coders and assist with problem resolution.
To liaise with colleagues in other departments including clinicians, medical secretaries, nursing staff, medical records team, and ward clerks to promote confidence and awareness in clinical coded data.
Additionally, the post holder will have ACC (Accredited Clinical Coder) status, having successfully achieved the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ).
