At Tiphereth-Camphill in Edinburgh, we are seeking a Full-Time co-worker to support adults with learning disabilities and autism who live within our Supported Living Service, grow their independence and be part of our vibrant community.
Previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential. What is most important is that you have a real desire to support people to maximise their independence, have a belief in supporting people to make their choices, and to do the things they want to do. The post will involve supporting personal care and safe people handling, experience of which would be desirable.
We are a Camphill community based on the edge of the Pentland hills in Edinburgh supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism in a range of day services, supported living, residential care, and social enterprises.

The Senior Support Worker will assist in the supervision and direction of the staff team and in maintaining the high standards of support in line with the organisation’s quality standards and mission statement. Knowledge of current legislation and regulations relating to the social care sector and the requirements of the Care Inspectorate is essential for this role. The post holder will also be expected to commit to on-call duties.

The role involves supporting people with learning disabilities to be included in the community and lead an ordinary life. Your work would involve helping people to access educational, social, leisure, and work or volunteering opportunities in the community.
No experience or formal qualifications are necessary for the role, although a caring nature, positive attitude, and a sense of fun are important characteristics to have. New staff will receive paid training and undertake shadow shifts with experienced staff members during induction. We want new staff to feel ready and able to work prior to working on their own for the first time.

Good communication skills to be able to work effectively with referrers and individuals using the service. Compassionate listening, be able to alleviate individual’s feelings of distress. Be highly resourceful in supporting individuals i.e., identifying coping strategies, self-management techniques, and onward referral where appropriate. Be confident and competent to apply risk assessment, safety planning, and escalation processes where appropriate. SVQ 3 or equivalent or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification is essential.
