Formulation Chemist (Junior) Reporting To: Development Chemist or R&D Director Department: Technical Department Key Purpose: To provide support on the testing and development work of LORCO manufactured products as directed by Development Chemists/Technical Department. In this role you will be involved with product development across all Astonish and Moss & Adams products. This role will build expertise in product development, formulation science and testing. You will also work closely with manufacturing, quality and regulatory staff, performing QA and QC testing, processing and recording information and documents onto systems. You will also support with the efficient running of the laboratory, ordering chemicals and calibrating equipment. Key Activities: (The Main Activities/actions needed to carry out the job) Collaborates with other members of the team to ensure all QC data is recorded on Access database and that retained samples for every manufactured blend is retained and stored for 4 years. All blend data & samples can be received Collaborates with other members of the team to ensure that CofAs have been received for all bulk chemical deliveries prior to offloading on site and QC testing completed when required. Ensures that all chemicals have appropriate LORCO label to indicate QA approval. Records are maintained for bulk deliveries. No. of out of spec deliveries are monitored and recorded Manages key documentation for new/existing chemicals, including, animal testing declarations, SDSs, CofA, Kosher certification and specifications. All documents available electronically for approved suppliers Formulate, with guidance, cosmetic, detergent and biocidal products on laboratory scale, on projects agreed with the Development Chemists and Technical and Laboratory Manager. Lab batches are made safely. Lab work is reported correctly. Assesses new materials and technologies via application in LORCO product formulations clarifying the cost effectiveness versus existing products. New materials are assessed and incorporated into formulations. Results are recorded. Ensures the chemical, physical and microbiological stability of new and existing formulations. New prototype products are stability tested before launch. Completes internal and product evaluation on agreed projects, including supporting with the development of new evaluation methods to assess performance. New methods are developed, and procedures written up. Assesses new chemical sources of existing chemicals, including quality and compatibility with LORCO formulations, making recommendations based on lab investigation. MTRs are reported. Ensures all lab work is technically robust, completed safely, and is traceable and reproducible. Development work complies with the quality system and ISO 9001 standard. Assesses new packaging sources, ensuring compatibility with products and suitability for use in the factory. PTRs are reported.
