Job Description
We are currently seeking a Traffic Operator to join our team at our Felixstowe site. As a Traffic Operator, you will manage and monitor the daily activities for drivers. The main focus is to achieve set targets and ensure the environment runs smoothly and efficiently.
Salary: £31,000 Per Annum
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, Days
Key duties of Traffic Operator include:
* Control costs by managing nights out and monitoring parking locations.
* Achieve revenue and cost targets; investigate truck earnings.
* Daily hours checks and timesheet approval.
* Ensure costs are correct on the running sheets and investigate anything out of the ordinary.
* Ensure override dates are correct and revenue is allocated correctly.
* Take responsibility for containers left on wheels in yards, ensuring exports make the intended vessels and empties are returned in time to avoid detention fees.
* Ensure a pickup leg is put in for anything lifted off and moved into the relevant planning screen.
* Ensure containers are returned to quay/depot before detention is incurred and prior to vessel cut-offs; escalate to the Planner if there are any issues.
* Ensure vehicles and relevant information are put on the backload the day before the job.
* Find ways to make the job more profitable by utilising one way, tip and reload.
* Speak to all drivers and provide a list of weekend overtime shifts to the Planner by the end of play every Wednesday.
* Provide drivers with their next day details by 1700 hrs each day where possible.
* Monitor driver cover sheets each day for the next in case of changes.
* Ensure drivers are trained to use specialised equipment.
* Ensure jobs do not exceed legal weight requirements.
* Ensure all ATA/ATD's/ETA's and trailer numbers are in Truckcom.
* Ensure all override dates are set correctly for the sub-contractor trailer report.
* Monitor ETA's and enter late advices at least 30 minutes before the booking time.
* Send demurrage warnings once the driver has been on site for 2 hours.
* Ensure all vehicles are routed and every driver is aware of their job and start time.
* Ensure all OV's and sub-contractors are logged on and using the Truckcom app.
* Follow service and MOT schedules.
* Research and understand drivers' legal working hours and update knowledge with internal training if required.
* Build positive and effective relationships with drivers on your traffic sheet(s) to ensure a content workforce.
* Oversee, manage, and monitor the daily activities of your allocated drivers.
* Keep up to date with all relevant legislation and ensure that regulations, policies, and procedures are followed.
* Make decisions in the best interests of the Company and clients; elevate issues to your line manager where necessary.
* Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
* Minimise operation expenditure within the business wherever possible.
* Understand and comply with the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy and carry out work in accordance with its requirements.
