The opportunity
Our client is currently seeking an experienced Senior Instrument Engineer to join their team in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This role involves providing Instrument Design and Consulting services while supporting local project teams. The position demands strong technical expertise in instrumentation design, along with extensive experience in Functional Safety. The candidate must have the ability to work autonomously and possess strong communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
The role
Location: Macclesfield, Cheshire
Rate Range: £65-£75 per hour (Ltd) – subject to IR35 assessment confirming outside status.
Duration: 12 months minimum (ongoing likely)
Hybrid Working: This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring you to attend the Macclesfield office 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work from home for the remaining 2 days.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Project Support: Work closely with the multi-disciplinary design team and project manager to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of pharmaceutical projects.
Customer Needs Assessment: Assess client requirements and provide tailored design solutions.
Design Documentation: Produce reports, scope of works, concept designs, and detailed designs (typically RIBA 2-4).
Project Delivery: Ensure the timely delivery of projects, meeting quality and cost targets, while managing multiple priorities.
Collaboration: Liaise with other disciplines such as Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil to support comprehensive project development.
Innovation: Lead the identification and application of innovative solutions to enhance project performance.
Client Interaction: Engage directly with clients to ensure alignment with project specifications and requirements.You will have the following qualifications and experience
Extensive Functional Safety Expertise: Strong and proven experience in Functional Safety and compliance with IEC61511 standards, including producing SIL documentation (Safety Instrumented Systems).
TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Certification is essential.
Experience: At least 5 years in an instrumentation design role, with a proven track record in delivering instrumentation installation designs, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector.
Experience in pharmaceutical facilities is preferred, but candidates with experience in chemical or other process sectors will also be considered.
Education: HNC or Degree in a technical engineering-related subject.
Industry Experience: Experience with pharmaceutical construction projects is advantageous but not essential.
Design Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) design best practices.
Project Lifecycle: Experience across all stages of the project lifecycle, from concept to detailed design and construction support.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and safety requirements.
Proficient in AutoCAD LT (minimal CAD work expected).
Experience with Navisworks and Revit (not essential).
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.it's great if you also have the following
Hazardous Area Design: Compex 12 qualification or substantial experience in hazardous area design.
Client Liaison: Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Project Management: Ability to manage and deliver projects to time, quality, and cost targets, demonstrating strong multitasking and prioritisation skills.Site Presence: The role requires regular visits to the Macclesfield office (3 days per week) to facilitate collaboration with clients and project teams.
