Implementation of compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensuring that the bank’s internal policies are aligned with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements. Collaboration with 1LOD, other relevant Compliance teams and legal, and relevant risk management functions to facilitate a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management. EDD Manager | Barclays | UK The primary focus of this role is to conduct Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews for clients engaged in Cash & Precious Metals and Stones activities. The role requires a deep understanding of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) risks associated with these high-risk sectors. This involves analysing complex documentation and data from multiple Management Information (MI) and open sources to identify and assess potential risks. A critical aspect of the role is the ability to gather, review, and synthesise information from diverse sources, presenting the findings in a clear, concise, and accessible manner. Based on these insights, the role holder will provide informed recommendations—whether to maintain, exit, or conduct further due diligence on a client relationship—to ensure effective risk mitigation. The role requires close collaboration with the second line compliance function, relationship management teams, and Know Your Customer (KYC) Customer Due Diligence (CDD) delivery teams to ensure the completion of high-quality EDD reviews. Operating at a senior level, the individual will prepare and present detailed reports that support senior management in decision-making regarding the onboarding and ongoing relationship management of Corporate Bank clients. This includes presenting findings and insights at Governance Forums within the business. Additionally, the role includes a responsibility for driving continuous improvements in governance processes and procedures for the Cash & Precious Metals and Stones sector, as part of the broader Corporate Bank Financial Crime Execution framework. This entails ensuring effective escalation and resolution mechanisms and contributing to the alignment and enhancement of CDD and EDD practices. The role also involves responding to ad-hoc advisory requests from various stakeholders across the bank. These include teams such as KYC, Coverage, the Corporate Bank Risk Assessment Unit, and Financial Crime, particularly with respect to clients involved in Cash & Precious Metals and Stones activities. Key Accountabilities Ensuring EDD reviews are completed in line with the AML Life Cycle Standards. Engage 1LOD stakeholders (Relationship Director, Know Your Customer CDD, Risk Assessment Unit) and 2LOD colleagues (Financial Crime Business Oversight Compliance) to facilitate the successful conclusion of the review. Identify, analyse, and articulate the specific Financial Crime-relevant risk posed, apply judgement to ascertain what level of EDD is adequate and proportionate to mitigate the identified risks associated and provide a reasoned recommendation as to how to proceed with the relationship. Deliver risk-based EDD by reviewing and analysing information gathered in meetings, public sources, and Barclays internal data. Undertake analysis of transactional activity on Corporate bank accounts and analysis of/comparison with client profile and expected activity. Provide guidance, training, and feedback to Relationship Directors in their own assessment of transactional activity and explanation of client nature of business/source of funds. Report conclusions by compiling EDD reports and delivering recommendations in coordination with the Relationship Director. EDD reports and presentations will need to convey complex messages succinctly. Assist with ad-hoc projects as directed by management. Presentation of EDD to the Risk Forum which includes the Head of Corporate Banking Financial Crime, Local Financial Crime, Heads of Business/Sectors and Head of Strategic Risk Develop and manage client relationships when undertaking reviews of the AML/CTF and ABC frameworks. Monitor industry activity – ensure Barclays have a fluent, clear, current point of view on all market developments, and constantly challenge self and product proposition against evolving industry landscape. Manage the review of Adverse Media. Assessing the severity of the escalations and work with Relationship Directors to agree appropriate actions. Assist with ad-hoc projects as directed by management. Protect the reputation of Barclays by identifying and mitigating the risk posed by Corporate Bank clients. Support team members about EDD methodology and the Corporate Bank’s governance and control systems. Stakeholder Management and Leadership The role holder will report to the Head of Cash & Precious Metals and Stones. External stakeholders will include MLROs/ Head of AML/ Head of Compliance. Meetings will involve negotiation due to the sensitive nature and scrutiny of information. This will require the candidate to balance the need for a positive client experience throughout E2E process. On a day-to-day basis they will engage directly with the Managing Director, Financial Crime Execution and manage escalation with Relationship Directors. The role holder will present their findings and recommendations at the appropriate Review Forum where they will be asked to summarise their findings, respond to questions/challenges, and give their views on the EDD Reviews presented. Forums include senior representatives from Financial Crime, Risk Assessment Unit and Coverage. Representatives often being at Managing Director level. Decision-making and Problem Solving The role holder is required to use their skills, knowledge, and training to assess the level of Enhanced Due Diligence required. There is no “template or aide memoire” to work to and the role holder must make risk-based decisions to ensure the review is complete, comprehensive, and appropriate to the level of risk being reviewed. The role holder is required to be able to work on their own using their initiative, knowledge, and skills to produce a comprehensive report and recommendation. They must ensure reports will stand up to the scrutiny of the Review Forum membership, Internal Audit and the Regulator who will review the output of their reviews and recommendations. Risk and Control Objective Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards. Person Specification Previous experience of Enhanced Due Diligence or other risk management roles. Strong writing and presentation skills, ability to effectively summarise information from multiple sources into a concise and well-argued analytical assessment. In-depth knowledge of AML/Sanctions/ABC risks and ability to analyse those in a commercial banking context. Ability to work unsupervised, make informed judgements and be able to use initiative to solve several, often complex, cases simultaneously within deadlines. Ability to lead customer conversation on financial crime related topics. Ability to present complex subject matters concisely and confidently at Forum meetings and engage with internal and external stakeholders often at Managing Director level. Ability to make recommendations and respond to challenges and provide balanced analysis and reasoned arguments to support recommendations. Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications: Educated to Degree level Knowledge of financial crime and experience with conducting financial crime risk assessments Interest in geopolitical events, regulatory landscape, and confidence in analysing risks in the context of financial flows. Previous experience using open-source research tools such as World-check. Ability to work using own initiative and come to conclusions and make recommendations to senior stakeholders Excellent report writing and presentation skills Excellent English language skills both verbal and written is essential Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to have difficult and often sensitive client discussions that do not impact overall client relationships Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications: Relevant AML/CTF or ABC qualifications i.e. ACAMs. Knowledge of UK Financial Crime regulatory environment.
