My client is looking for a Caretaker to work at a School around the Glossop area. This is a Full-time Temporary Position to start ASAP initially until Easter 2025, but it does have the potential to become Permanent.
You will be expected to work the following hours:
9am-5pm (Monday-Friday) - there may be occasions where you will be required to start earlier/finish later (i.e. open evenings).
To be considered YOU MUST Hold a Current Enhanced DBS Certificate.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. To ensure heating plant and equipment is efficiently and effectively operated, make adjustments to the control systems as necessary and report defects and malfunctions to the Premises & Operations Manager.
2. To maintain the security of the premises including the operation of security lighting and fire and burglar alarm systems.
3. To carry out routine cleaning duties.
4. To carry out more specialist cleaning duties.
5. To arrange to clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc., and clean up spillages as required.
6. To ensure that gullies, drains etc. are kept free from debris and that the school and grounds are litter-free.
7. To be responsible for ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to the school particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. snow clearing, gritting).
8. To undertake portering tasks as required including setting up and clearing away furniture.
9. To monitor the provision of toiletry items including requisition, storage and distribution of such items.
10. To clean light fittings and replace minor parts such as tubes, bulbs, fuses, starters and diffusers.
11. To dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required.
12. To ensure all chemicals are stored safely and COSHH principles are followed at all times.
13. To report emergencies in the case of faults with gas, electric and water supply to the appropriate person.
14. To initiate and undertake minor repairs to site buildings and equipment (excluding electrical faults) and to remove graffiti on school premises as required.
15. To maintain, erect and disassemble scaffold towers in a safe manner for use for maintenance works.
16. To undertake minor improvements and decorating to the internal fabric of the school, for example the erection of shelving.
17. To monitor stock levels of consumable items such as fuel, grit, toiletries, light bulbs/tubes and cleaning materials and arrange to replenish supplies in accordance with current procedures.
18. To maintain appropriate records including fire drill log, permission to work log, intruder alarm logbook, heating system record book, repair orders and timesheets.
19. To attend to personnel visiting the site such as contractors, representatives of utilities (gas, electric) and monitor any work being carried out within the postholder’s area of responsibility.
20. To organise and undertake on a pre-planned basis the stripping, resealing and polishing of floors, washing of walls and cleaning and maintenance of furniture during school holiday periods.
21. To clean the internal/external face of windows within the limitations of safe working practices.
22. To be a nominated keyholder.
