We're supporting our client, a world leading engineering company, with a UK site based in Nottingham, who are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will have experience of working in food or plastics, rubber or petrochemical manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities for Mechanical Design Engineer:
1. Specification and design of equipment to be used as part of the process system or stand-alone machine, taking into account international and national laws/standards.
2. Selection of most suitable equipment to meet application, environment and duty such as sensor types, motor types and IP rating. Including liaison with equipment suppliers.
3. Creative thinking for bespoke equipment design and processes.
4. Preparation of bills of materials and assistance to purchasing department including liaising with component suppliers and local metal fabrication companies.
5. Support to sales staff in terms of providing mechanical designs to meet the requirements of the quotation. This support may also involve customer visits for clarification of requirements.
6. Support to the Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager for reporting and accurate estimation of project timescales.
7. Documentation for both fellow colleagues, commissioning engineers, maintenance staff and end users.
8. Assistance to spares department and with in-house mechanical assembly and on-site installation/commissioning as needed (UK only).
About You:
1. Educated to degree level in a mechanical biased engineering subject. 2 to 4 years' experience in design of mechanical plant and equipment for industrial manufacturing processes in industries such as food, plastics, rubber, petro-chemical, glass or water.
2. Design/Specification of mechanical equipment for use under ATEX/UKEX is a requirement.
3. Capable of developing 2D or 3D schematic and layout drawings using AutoCAD.
4. Have experience of designing hydraulic and electro-pneumatic control systems.
5. Have at least several years of experience of using SolidWorks 3D or equivalent to create 3D drawings of process plant equipment within a building envelope.
6. Capable of creating Process and Instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to depict a process and the process flow.
7. Be proficient using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
8. Accurate in estimation of timescales for own work within a project.
9. Present a professional approach when interfacing with customers directly.
10. Have experience in designing hydraulic and electro-pneumatic control systems.
