Purchasing Assistant
Salary: £26,523 per annum
Our client, a Bristol-based foodservice wholesale company, is currently seeking a Full Time, Permanent, Purchasing Assistant to join their busy purchasing department at their head office based in Yate, Bristol.
Our client is one of the largest independent foodservice wholesalers in the Southwest. They supply a full range of frozen, chilled and ambient foods together with an extensive range of non-food catering products.
Working within the purchasing team, the Purchasing Assistant will assist in ensuring the company remains a highly competitive and high-quality provider within the foodservice wholesale industry. Working closely with internal departments and external suppliers you will be required to ensure that the company brand and services delivers within this competitive marketplace. This position will suit someone who has a flexible, positive attitude, is comfortable managing their own workload and is confident and organised.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
1. Provide effective and reliable support to the purchasing management team, undertaking daily purchasing activities as requested.
2. Handle inbound and outbound phone calls, aiding with product related queries.
3. Assist with ordering products and dealing with supplier queries.
4. Work closely with the purchasing team and external suppliers to evaluate and manage pricing. Communicate new and current pricing fluctuations with the sales team.
5. Assist with stocktaking and stock checking duties.
6. Assist the warehouse with stock allocation levels and goods in queries.
7. Support the purchasing department with booking deliveries and managing any goods in delivery issues.
8. Assist with managing the company’s ecommerce platforms, printing orders and packaging labels and responding to ecommerce queries and feedback.
9. Use the company’s computer system to record and check product data.
10. Assist with the supplier approval process to keep in line with the companies BRC quality management system.
11. Liaise with colleagues across the business to resolve issues and answer product related queries.
Applicants with previous experience of working in a purchasing department or within the wholesale or catering sector is desirable, however the company will also consider applications from individuals who are looking for their first purchasing role as training will be provided to meet company requirements.
The Purchasing Assistant will be expected to have the following skills and attributes:
12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable making and answering telephone calls with a professional and friendly telephone manner.
13. Good level of numeracy and English literacy skills.
14. Computer literate and able to learn new systems quickly.
15. Excellent attention to detail, able to work with a high degree of accuracy and identify and rectify problems quickly.
16. Organised with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines remaining calm in challenging situations.
17. Excellent interpersonal skills, likes to work as part of a team but is also self-motivated to manage own workload with good time management skill.
18. Confident with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a desire to show initiative.
