Job summary A Respiratory Specialist Nurse, providing specialist nursing care to patients with chronic respiratory conditions like Interstitial lung disease, COPD, Bronchiectasis, and Asthma. Focussing on clinical assessments, management plans, prescribing and titrating oxygen, and providing education and support to the patients. Working within an MDT and supporting pulmonary rehabilitation with running the classes and delivering education to the patients. Main duties of the job Assessing respiratory patients in either a clinic setting or their homes. Monitor and review new or existing patients. Holding and managing a case load of patients. Take referrals from secondary care with hospital discharges or from Respiratory Consultants, primary care and community services. Educating patients on management of their respiratory condition. Inhaler technique and medication reviews. Taking arterial blood gases, interpreting the results and prescribing oxygen. Performing diagnostic testing with spirometry. Delivering education and supporting pulmonary rehabilitation. Collaborative working and communication with other services in the community and secondary care. Working with the MDT of OT, Physio, SALT, Support worker, Exercise instructor and Dietitian.
