An exciting opportunity has arisen within SLAM for an Electrician to join our Estates team at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The Trust has four main sites and community properties, therefore applicants should be able to arrange their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks in a safe and tidy manner. To maintain continuity of service, there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns/duties are required. The post-holder must have a good general knowledge of domestic and commercial building services.
As an Electrician, you will need to be keen, enthusiastic, and physically fit while working as part of a large team. The main activities include maintenance, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring, and associated remedial work at the Bethlem Royal Hospital site and Community Properties. Applicants should be capable of working on their own initiative and ensuring tasks are carried out in a safe, tidy manner. The trust provides a wide range of mental health services to the UK. To maintain continuity of service, there will be times when extra hours and altered work patterns/duties are required, along with a requirement to undertake training to remain current with relevant standards.
Main Duties of the Job
This job is for an Electrician who has a good general knowledge of domestic and commercial buildings. In your duties of maintenance, there will be statutory checks in line with Approved Code of Practice (Building Regulations, HBN & HTM).
You will be expected to work on your own initiative as well as within a team. You will need knowledge of building structures and fabric, as well as fire compartmentalisation and fire door maintenance. Applicants should be able to arrange their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks in a safe and tidy manner.
Job Responsibilities
1. To undertake planned preventative maintenance or emergency work as demanded by a Hospital of this type and use all skills and knowledge to ensure safe methods of working and to carry out maintenance tasks in a safe and cost-effective way for the Trust.
2. To understand the workings of engineering services and systems and building structures in NHS/Trust premises, ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner.
3. To work as part of a departmental team and, where necessary, to support/assist the work of colleagues, and to be able to work with staff of all levels and disciplines throughout the trust.
4. To provide maintenance service to all Trust buildings and off-site properties and be able to work unsupervised. To have a flexible approach to the work and be able to work beyond the normal hours of duty if required and to carry out other tasks from other disciplines should circumstances dictate.
5. To ensure work undertaken is completed in a timely manner and that appropriate records are updated through the requisite system.
6. To keep up to date with any new legislation and attend training courses as directed by the Estate Manager.
7. To be able to work safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, and to follow any other safety policies or guidelines as issued by the Trust.
8. To be compassionate and mindful to our clients and be mindful of the need for safe use, security, storage of plant, equipment, and tools.
9. To drive between trust properties in a safe and timely manner adhering to trust policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ3 or equivalent in relevant trade
* BS7671 18th edition + amendments
* Health & Safety qualification in one of the following: Safe use of ladders, Pasma certificate, Manual handling
* CSCS card
* Testing & Inspection, Design and verification
* Abrasive wheel certificate
* Coshh training
Experience
* Knowledge of the compliance demands in healthcare premises
* Knowledge of all associated trades
* To be able to work in occupied areas safely and conduct oneself in a manner that preserves dignity and respect to our clients
* To be able to deal with tense, difficult, and stressful situations in the ward environment
* Experience in Building Management systems
* Experience in Fire alarm systems
* Experience in Intruder systems
* Experience in Emergency lighting systems
* Previous experience in this type of environment
* Experience of working in a psychiatric hospital
Knowledge
* To have basic computer skills
* Full Clean driving licence
* Knowledge of HTM regulations
