Due to internal promotion, we are looking to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist into our Interface Team at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an MDT to facilitate functional assessments and therapy interventions to prevent admission to hospital within the Emergency Department and support safe, timely and effective discharges from admissions and short stay wards.
This role is open to Occupational Therapists who have sound clinical reasoning and the ability to problem-solve and work autonomously with a complex and fast-paced caseload, delegating to support staff when appropriate. You must be able to demonstrate skills in organising and prioritisation, high-level communication skills, the ability to document patient interventions effectively, and have the ability to move and handle patients with complex needs.
As this role includes visits to patients' homes, you must also be able to drive the department vehicles.
You will be required to work extended days with a shift pattern between the hours of 08:00 - 19:30 and will be expected to participate in 7 day working rotas; including weekends and Bank Holidays.
You must have a recognised degree in Occupational Therapy and have professional registration with the HCPC.
Main duties of the job
The Interface Team are part of the Occupational Therapy service which sits within the Directorate of Therapies in the Division of Clinical Support. They are a combined team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who provide a service to ED, Urgent Treatment Centre, admission wards and other front of house hospital areas with the focus of completing rapid functional assessments & identification of supportive services to prevent hospital admission. This is a fast-paced, challenging and demanding role where you need to be responsive and resourceful and work effectively as part of a team.
You will need to have excellent working knowledge of the discharge processes relevant to Sunderland, South Tyneside and the surrounding areas and of the resources available to support them and also be able to effectively communicate with services internal to, and external to the Trust.
The service and the Trust actively support CPD and there are opportunities to develop and enhance your clinical and leadership skills.
Job responsibilities
1. To work as an autonomous practitioner using advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist therapy assessment, treatment and advice to an independently managed caseload which will incorporate a range of presentation of conditions.
2. To be involved in clinical practice issues, raising the profile of the service and offering specialist advice to planning and service development in order to assist the team leader/service manager in the implementation of service improvements.
3. To work towards improving quality services including implementing evidence-based practice.
4. To work toward the achievement of specific response time targets.
5. To complete effective, concise documentation of patients' records in line with Trust, professional & department standards.
6. To ensure accurate data entry takes place in line with departmental standards.
7. To participate in the clinical education of staff within the specialism and be responsible for the supervision of unqualified, newly qualified therapists and undergraduates who work under your direct supervision.

Skills and Knowledge

Qualifications
* Degree in Occupational Therapy.

* Comprehensive experience at Band 5 level as a therapist in the relevant profession incorporating experience within a range of specialities in a physical health setting.
* Evidence of specialist level knowledge and experience in Occupational Therapy.
* Knowledge of the specialty area.
* Post graduate education/CPD activities relevant to the role.
* Evidence base in specialism developed from the application of post-graduate study.
* Evidence of maintaining CPD activities.
* Developed knowledge of current best practice principles.
* Post graduate qualification in relevant healthcare area such as post graduate diploma.
* Post graduate training in leadership.

Physical Skills
