Role Overview & Purpose
Widely known and recognised retail lending business require a Mortgage Underwriter to join a team of established underwriters with responsibility for providing an efficient and professional mortgage underwriting service to the firms members, customers and intermediaries through compliant regulated meetings.
Located in Lancashire, the firm operate an extremely flexible hybrid working pattern with 1 or 2 days per month required in the office. A competitive base salary alongside an excellent benefits package is available.
Role Responsibilities
1. Process mortgage Decision in Principle (DIP) requests from intermediaries within SLA.
2. Process mortgage applications on the firms software system and complete all procedural administrative documentation efficiently liaising with the customer during the application process.
3. Maintain accurate records and notes throughout all stages of the mortgage application.
4. Approve mortgage applications (direct and introduced) within specified limits in accordance with Lending Policy.
5. Consider mortgage applications outside standard lending policy where a justifiable business reason exists.
6. Present out of criteria cases to Credit Risk Committee with appropriate recommendations and rationale.
7. Maintain professional business relationships with BDMs, mortgage introducers and external contacts, providing information and guidance when required.
8. Maintain knowledge and comply with all legal responsibilities and codes of conduct to which the Society must comply with i.e. Vulnerable Customers, AML, MCOB, DPA, FCA etc.
Personal Attributes & Experience
1. Underwriting experience within residential lending.
2. CeMap qualified or industry equivalent.
3. 5 GCSE at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent.
4. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
5. Experience of Microsoft packages including Word & Excel.
6. Ability to independently manage multiple tasks.
7. Strong attention to detail.
