About the Role
Our public sector client is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer (Operations) to oversee the maintenance, development, and operational management of key waterway infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity to play a crucial role in the management and enhancement of vital public assets.
As part of the Regional Management Team, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, managing maintenance works, and coordinating projects to ensure the efficient and safe use of waterways. You will also work closely with contractors, stakeholders, and local organisations to support infrastructure improvements and recreational development.
Key Responsibilities
* Project & Operational Management: Oversee maintenance, construction, and refurbishment projects, ensuring they meet quality, budget, and safety standards.
* Health & Safety Compliance: Implement and monitor safety systems, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with consultants, contractors, local authorities, community groups, and environmental bodies.
* Regulatory & Planning Compliance: Prepare and review project documentation, planning submissions, and funding applications.
* Team Leadership: Manage operational staff, supervise work plans, and provide mentorship to develop team capabilities.
* Emergency Response: Participate in the organisation's emergency response team on a rota basis.
Essential Criteria
To be considered, you must have:
* A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent) with eligibility for Chartered Membership (ICE/IEI).
* At least five years' post-qualification experience, including two years in an operational environment.
* Experience in construction and maintenance within a water-based environment.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations and experience conducting site supervision.
* Strong project management skills, including experience with budgetary control.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and engineering design tools.
* A valid driving licence and access to transport for site visits.
Desirable Skills
* Chartered Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution.
* Experience working in a waterway maintenance environment.
* Additional health and safety qualifications.
* Familiarity with environmental considerations in infrastructure development.
* Experience working with Trade Unions.
