About Us
The school has a long history in the village, beginning 180 years ago. In the 1950s a new
school was opened on our current site, with the infants being separated out in the 1970s. In recent years the school has grown to meet the needs of the local community, growing from a 2-form to a 3-form junior school. The school has a good reputation among parents and the village community, and our Ofsted inspection in November 2019 confirmed that the school is a good school where pupils behave well and embrace their learning “with zest”.
As a school, we are continually developing a broad curriculum offer, which places high value on retaining knowledge as part of building children’s broader understanding of the world. We value the subjects beyond English and maths, and want to see all children have opportunities for enjoyment and excellence in every lesson. Candidates should therefore include mention of any subject expertise they can offer when composing their letter of support.
EPJS is part of Schoolsworks Academy Trust, a small MAT operating 10 schools along the Sussex coast. We use our partnership with these schools to share experience and
practice, and to provide opportunities for joint professional development. The trust also has a strong secondment programme, offering opportunities for career development.
As a headteacher, I want to work in a school where staff enjoy their work, and are free to
prepare great lessons and provide exciting opportunities for our pupils. Wherever possible, we work to minimise workload for staff, and ensure that colleagues want to be here. Current staff at the school describe a friendly and supportive team with a good work-life balance, and where we laugh every day.

Contract Type: Permanent (1FTE)
Location: East Preston Junior School
Closing date: Noon on Monday 12th May 2025

We are looking to appoint a class teacher to join us at East Preston Junior School as our
team reaches the final stages of expansion. The successful candidate will join a team of 3 classes, and may be responsible for leading an area of the curriculum (dependent on
experience). We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with expertise in Art & Design or Design & Technology, but welcome applicants with any curriculum expertise.
According to current staff, at EPJS you’ll find:
• a supportive team who always ‘have your back’, professionally & personally
• wellbeing as a high priority, so workload is always minimised
• plenty of humour, and a community spirit in this village school
• children, cared for with genuine heart, and their families who support the school
• opportunities for collaborative working in school and across the trust
• a belief that you should be able to have a rewarding teaching career and a home life!
Just as important are some of the things you definitely won’t find:
• onerous marking policies or ‘verbal feedback’ stampers
• children copying out learning objectives or teachers taking photos for the sake of book
scrutiny
• detailed planning expectations
• lengthy tick-box assessments or termly tests to mark
We’re looking for candidates who want to focus their energies on developing excellent
classroom teaching, creating a high-quality curriculum and providing great experiences for our children, rather than ticking boxes and completing paperwork.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the school and meet with the headteacher to discuss the role. Visits can be arranged by contacting the school office at
office@epjs.co.uk or 01903 785672.
Full details of the application process are in the applicant information pack; completed
applications should be submitted by email to recruitment@schoolsworks.org
