The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of English to drive outstanding teaching and learning, support curriculum development, and contribute to the continued success of the department. The role includes mentoring colleagues, leading on specific areas of the curriculum, and ensuring excellent outcomes for all students. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Head of English in leading and managing the department. Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the English curriculum. Monitor and enhance student progress, ensuring high attainment and engagement. Provide leadership in teaching and learning strategies within the department. Support and mentor colleagues, including early career teachers (ECTs). Contribute to staff training and professional development. Help to develop and implement department policies and initiatives. Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. Support the school’s wider vision and ethos, contributing to extracurricular activities. Person Specification: Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English or a related subject. Proven experience of teaching English at Key Stages 3, 4, and preferably Key Stage 5. A track record of securing strong student outcomes. Excellent knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment frameworks. Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire both students and colleagues. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. A commitment to continuous professional development and school improvement. Desirable: Previous experience in a leadership or middle management role. Experience in curriculum design and development. Familiarity with current educational policies and best practices. A willingness to engage in extracurricular activities
