About the role We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join us on the ATI (Aerospace Technology Institute) funded project “Multi-Application Bonding” (MABOND). The project partners Bath with several industrial and academic collaborators which are invested in composite manufacturing processes. MABOND is a research and innovation initiative to develop and accelerate structural bonding technologies to replace fasteners. We’re seeking a composites research engineer who will conduct parametric studies and material testing relating to our in-house resistance welding process. You will modify the existing rig according to project requirements and based on our evolving understanding of the process. In addition, you’ll develop and verify an FEA/Strip model of the welded joints, which will also be used for parametric studies. This position is available on a full time basis, fixed term for two years from 3rd March 2025. About you Our ideal candidate will have: a first degree in an Engineering or Engineering-related subject a PhD (or equivalent) with appropriate content proven experience of FEA modelling, design and manufacture Experience in some of the following areas will be a distinct advantage: mechanical testing, joining technologies, composites manufacturing, process development, or process optimisation. Candidates should be self-motivated and possess project management and technical communication skills.
