Join our dynamic and very experienced Neurophysio team covering a wide range of pathology in a community setting.
The Physio team makes up an important part of a wider MDT including OT, SLT, Dietetics, Psychology, and Specialist nursing.
This post is 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week). Flexibility on working hours and days is available although Thursday morning is essential.
You will have access to training, supervision, and development within this post.
Main duties of the job
1. To assess and treat own specialist caseload of neurological patients and maintain associated records as an autonomous practitioner.
2. To supervise less experienced physiotherapists and students within this speciality.
3. To feedback and receive guidance from Band 7 / Therapies Clinical Manager / Clinical Specialist on a frequent basis.
4. To effectively manage patients' neurophysiotherapy needs in the community.
5. To work effectively as part of MDT delivering neurorehabilitation services in community settings.
Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. To formulate and deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programs based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options.
2. To assess the patient's understanding of treatment proposals and gain valid informal consent to treatment.
3. To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively and sensitively condition-related information with patients, other members of the multi-disciplinary team and other relevant parties, including Social Services and third-sector organisations.
4. To evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programs if required.
5. To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload seeking guidance from Band 7 Clinical Specialist or Clinical Manager as appropriate.
6. Work within Surrey Downs, CSP and national clinical guidelines with a good working knowledge of national and local standards. Monitor own and others' quality of practice as appropriate.
7. Work as a lone practitioner in community settings with other MDT members if required.
8. To represent the physiotherapy service and/or individual patients at the multi-disciplinary team meetings, to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multi-disciplinary service and integrated physiotherapy treatment into the treatment program.
9. To make accurate and complete records of work undertaken and keep monthly statistics in line with CNRS standards.
Professional
1. Supervise, evaluate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students.
2. To teach, assess and contribute to the performance assessment and appraisal of Band 5 qualified staff and Technical Instructors.
3. To maintain your own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of new developments and trends.
4. To actively participate in the in-service training program by attending and occasionally leading presentations.
5. To participate in a formal appraisal scheme and formulate a personal development plan.
6. To participate in data collection and occasional lead clinical audit within the Physiotherapy department or as part of the MDT.
7. To maintain a high personal standard of professional practice and behavior, and to encourage others within the team to do likewise.
8. Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice in the areas of each rotation.
9. To undertake project work to develop improvements to service delivery and clinical practice.
Organizational
1. To be responsible for the equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties and to adhere to department policies and guidelines to ensure safe use of equipment.
2. To share responsibility for departmental tidiness, maintenance, and administration.
3. To utilize IT systems appropriately to improve the efficiency of the service.
4. To assist and sometimes lead in the supervision and coordination of junior staff and assistants daily.
5. Deputise for Band 7 in their absence, taking responsibility for the operational management of the team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
* HPC Registration
* MCSP
* Member of Specialist groups e.g. ACPIN
* Further specialized courses, e.g. communication and assertiveness
Experience
* Working as a junior Physiotherapist to a competent level
* Experience of working with patients with different neurological conditions
* Previous Band 5/Band 6 experience working in neuro rehab
* Clinical supervision of students
* Experience of staff supervision
* Previous Community Experience
